A fun cozy mystery - with witches!
Amelia Spelled has had a bad week. Her boyfriend dumps her when she inadvertently gives him food poisoning. Her workplace, a telecommunications center, fires all their staff as they are outsourcing offshore, and she is evicted due to smoke damage resulting from her failed attempts at baking. Amelia thinks her luck has changed when she inherits her estranged aunt's store, two mysterious cats, and beautiful Victorian house.
Yet has Amelia jumped out of the frying pan into the fire? To Amelia's dismay, the store is a cake store, and she discovers that her aunt was a witch. To add to the mix, the house has secrets of its own.
When a man is murdered in the cake store, will Amelia be able to cook up a way to solve the crime? Or will her spells prove as bad as her baking?

I look forward reading more of these books. I hope more will be put into audio form. I received this book as a gift from the author.
Sci-fi, detective, cozy. Only give 5s to those books I think stand above the rest. 4 is a good solid book. 3 is average, nothing special.
It's really nice to have a writer not rely on mommy porn to sell books. The narrator took a lot of getting used to, brought it down a bit.
I feel bad for the author... I couldn't stand listening to the Narrator. Cadences all wrong, most sentences ran into each other and a true lack of story telling abilities. Although I wanted to know more about the story, I couldn't take it anymore, I stopped after chapter 6....
This is a great book; this is the first book in the Kitchen Witch series written by Morgana Best and narrated by Tiffany Dougherty. Amelia Spelled has had the worst week ever, she loses her job, her boyfriend dumps her, and then she is evicted from her apartment. She believes that her luck is about to change when she finds out she has inherited her estranged aunts Victorian house, to mysterious cats, and her aunts cake store. Amelia soon discovers that her aunt was a witch. When a man is murdered in the store, she puts her sleuthing skills to work to find the killer. If you are looking for a fun mystery with great characters then you need to read this book. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this great new series
This book has a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. This was such a great read and full of surprises.
The narrator Tiffany Dougherty did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to in one sitting and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end.
If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.
Enjoyed listening yo this book. The narrator brings all the characters to life nicely. The story was entertaining. I was given this audio book in exchange for a fair review
It's the kind of story you wish you could like, but just don't. I found the 'voices' created by the narrator very similar to day-time TV loud whispering - and equally as annoying.
Also, the use of American terms for Australian objects made the author seem very disingenuous. We just don't say those things, so If you please, either make the characters visiting Americans, or place the story somewhere else.
witches, murder investigation, amateur sleuth, women sleuths, pets, humor, Australia
From precipitous unemployment, to a very strange house and an inherited business that strikes terror in her heart, Amelia begins her new life in a small town where people think that there are no secrets. Then a man drops dead in her new cake shop under suspicious circumstances. She begins to find out that she has many new friends, but the local police are not among them. Let the sleuthing begin! Add in some hilarious situations, and you have a great cozy read.
Tiffany Dougherty gives an excellent audio performance!
The audio was very good. But truth be known, I'm a reader first.
No other book. This is the only author of this type of story I read.
At the end when the cupcakes blew up in her face. Hilarious.
I enjoyed the whole story.
Love this author. Suitable for all ages.
