"Very good book, but simplistic in politics"
Would you consider the audio edition of Midvintermörker [Midwinter Dark] to be better than the print version?

Not applicable, I have not read the print version of the book Midvintermorker so cannot comment.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Midvintermörker [Midwinter Dark]?

The more memorable moments are largely collected in the middle of the book. The book develops an assessment by effectively applying a cold war style attack on Sweden and the most powerful message is not a single episode, but rather the evolving assessment of how Sweden would cope.

Have you listened to any of Magnus Roosman’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Not applicable, I have not listened to any previous performances other than midvintermorker, so cannot comment.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

As a native Swede living abroad i found the story somewhat compelling in that it draws out some of the more naive elements of the Swedish attitudes and psyche that has developed since the end of the cold war. These can be found both in the military (where the author appear to think back in rosy, optimistic, terms to the brilliance of the essentially untested Swedish invasion defence), while the civilian attitudes expressed (including the police force), are generally naive, uninformed and happy to follow the lead of the defence sector.

    Any additional comments?

Generally speaking this is a good book, and definitely worth a read. It presents a good overview of "what little remains" of the Swedish defence, as well as the exposed geopolitical position of Sweden. Generally it describes the military situation well. It feels like a very relevant book in the current situation where Russia is again stirring and intervening outright in the affairs of its neighbours.

The book is however very weak in its portrayal of the political situation in western Europe, in particular the reactions of the other great powers of Europe, including the United Kingdom, France and Germany, as well, significantly, the United States. It also portrays a very poor understanding of the European natural gas market (which is significant to the story). This unfortunately, in my mind, limits the impact of the book significantly. I do however give the author credit as he does recognise that these elements was not the focus of his work.
