After a broken love affair, biographer Kate Kennedy retires to a remote cottage on the wild Essex coast to work on her new book - until her landlord’s daughter uncovers a Roman site nearby and long-buried passions are unleashed! In her lonely cottage, Kate is terrorized by mysterious forces. What do these ghosts want? That the truth about the violent events of long ago be exposed or remain concealed?
Kate must struggle for her life against earthbound spirits and ancient curses as hate, jealousy, revenge, and passion do battle across the centuries.

"Dull, predictable, poorly researched, lacks a dece"
After this book I would not touch another from this author. Rula Lenska does a good job with the material provided.
My first reaction about this book was how did it get published ? It demonstrates that very little research was undertaken. I had no idea the area around Colchester was an uninhibited wilderness and I am not sure the writer paid more than a brief visit to the city or museum . She mentions the Boudican revolt and Roman occupation but fails to understand the basics of what went on in those days and the hIstorical gaffs are HUGE. There are so many plot holes as the narrative clumsily unfolds, the story is predictable and you feel yourself groaning as the book gradually dies. I suspect an editor has tidied it up a fair bit but it lacks suspense, please publishers, look carefully at the material before you publish.
"Midnight is a lonely place"
Found this story very boring, it went on and on and on in the same vein, could not listen to the second half, have better things to do with 7 hours of my life. Maybe a different narrator would make all the difference !
"midnight is a lonely place"
What a great spooky story this was,you could picture everything, and that made it a true ghost story,it had me jumpy at times i would fully recommend this book.
"Another good listen"
Another Barbara Erskine classic. These are books I will want to read a second and even third times. As usual, the narration was excellent, the writing the same. When I see a book by Barbara erskine, I know it will be worth listening to.
I loved this book the narration was good and the special effects made it chilling
My blood ran cold s few times
"Midnight is a lonely place . By Barbara Erskine"
I find all of Barbara Erskiine's books amazing, well studied to be accurate. Very hard to put down to.
Better reader, Spoilt by the reader who has little intonation in her voice. Very irritating
I have enjoyed various Barbara Erskine books but finding this difficult to listen to due to the reader.
More intonation in voice
"not Barbara Erskine's usual standard"
A longer build up to the main event and a shorter conclusion, it became quite tedious
I have read several of her books one of which is amongst my all time favourites so I would definitely try again in the hope that Midnight Is a Lonely Place is a one off disappointment
No I haven't but would like to. Rula Lenska's performance was the only thing that kept me listening.
All of them and start again. I didn't really care what happened to any of them
Excellent story brilliantly read could stop listening! Really enjoyed this as i do all of Barbra's books
