Critic reviews

"The fast-paced, well-planned plot will keep readers hooked. Caitlyn and Reid are intriguing, multidimensional characters who are easy to identify with, and the relationship that develops between them folds nicely into the suspense." ( RT Book Reviews)

A Romance Disguised as a Thriller

Absolute garbage. The voice the narrator chose as the lead female sounds like a baby, the author chose to make her an idiot with males making decisions for her like she's a special needs child.

I wanted to quote some of the "Harlequin-esque" like passages but neglected to note the times and I just could not go back to look for them... couldn't do it.

If you like ridiculous romance and soft porn mixed in with your "thrillers" then you'll love this book. As for me, this was just horrible in so many ways. The only reason I finished it was so I could complain about it since I had guessed the real killer early on but, even complaining about it seems about as much of a waste of time as listening to it.

Terrific for a car drive! Wonderful narrator!

If you could sum up Midnight Fear in three words, what would they be?

Classic Entertaining Suspense

What was one of the most memorable moments of Midnight Fear?

I loved the suspense and the fast pace. It is certainly a formulaic mystery and I wasn't wholly surprised by the twists. (I won't spoil by giving details.) But things happen so quickly and there isn't time to get too far ahead of the plot.

I really really liked this narrator and am surprised another review made such a point to say they disliked her. (Remind them of someone?)

For me, she gave life to the book and the characters which would otherwise have been a little two dimensional.

The author throws a romance in for the protagonists that doesn't work for me. But I appreciated her attempt to give depth to these wounded people. Again, I think the narratotion helped me care more than I would have.

Which character – as performed by Caroline Shaffer – was your favorite?

I got a kick out of the reporter. I won't give more than that because there are so many ways to spoil the suspense!

Any additional comments?

It's hard to write a review of this without giving it away. So I'll just say that it's fun and not too taxing. Good for a road trip...

Excellent Story

The story was excellent as usual. I highly recommend any of Leslie Tentler's books. But the narration did make this one a bit difficult. It was mostly the extensive pauses that bothered me. However, I stuck it out because I wanted to finish the story and eventually I guess my ears adjusted because I stopped noticing the pausing. But it took several hours of listen time to get to that point. The story was definitely worth it though.

wasted time

I cannot give this book any kind of rating. I had to restart it over 5 times because I couldn't stand the narrator. Have no idea if the book is good or not. Just couldn't get past the 3rd chapter. The narrator's long pauses at the end of each sentence was so annoying and her over exaggeration made it seem like a children's book. wasted time.

Great Story. Poor Narrator.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

No. The narrator made it very difficult to finish this book. The only reason I finished was the story.

What did you like best about this story?

The growing attraction between Kaitlin and Reed.

Would you be willing to try another one of Caroline Shaffer’s performances?

Yes.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

I would not recommend a film for this book.

Any additional comments?

Do no use this narrator again!

Ok

The story was very good but the narrator was absolutely horrible which almost made the story unbearable. Horrible accents, horrible inflections, and long pauses throughout the entire story. I'm starting to believe the only criteria to be a narrator is that you know how to read . The fact this was edited and passed through is a bewilderment.

Difficult listen

Decent story with good plot twist; however, the narration is unfortunate. I took the suggestion of a previous reviewer and increased the narration speed which helped a bit.

Dramatic Pauses…NOOOO

I had to speed it up just to help with ALL the dramatic pauses. Enough to drive a person to drink!
The overall story was good, if you can get past all the LONG dramatic pauses
