Tremendous Cop story with Mystery and some Romance

Griffin AKA Butterworth is well known for his war stories. However, he hits a home run with this COP book. It is set within the Philadelphia Police Department. Griffin does a great job of explaining how the Police feel when one of their own is taken. However, he also shows how the family can be affected as well the public. He adds in a little Romance to go along with the Mystery and he has another book that I could not seem to put down once I started it. As a retired Police Officer/Deputy Sheriff from a small town/county in another state, I feel he must have put in some time in law enforcement to have done such a fantastic job.

Boring

I've never read anything of Griffin's that I didn't like. He's an excellent writer. This was written 23 years ago and I did not like it. I don't like the narrator either. I also bought the second book in the series and if it's as bad as this one I will never order the others. I was looking forward to another good series by Griffin but this falls far short of that. Lousy character development which Griffin normally does very well. Very disappointed.

Couldn't Listen Past the First Chapter

I heard this author was amazing, however the narrator I couldn't get past his attempt at the different character voices that he tried..It just wasn't for me..

Book 1-More like Chapter 1-And terrible narratior

I did not love this experience. The narrator ruined it but even for being book 1 in a series, it's hardly a complete story on its own.

sorry Griffin

This is not one of his better novels. the story reads like a vintage private eye movie but fails to capture a moody atmosphere. It is simply a cop story. The performance is not good. I often thought the performance failed to add life to the characters.

The Cop & The Blonde Reporter

Another special download from audible.com--first in a series. In this one, the cop falls for the reporter dame, with many undercurrents and in the background of a senior cop shot. I liked it, but believe I'll wait awhile for the second in the series.

Good story.

At times it was difficult to keep the characters straight. Overall it is a good story and performed very well.

W E B stories are always entertaining

Would you listen to Men in Blue again? Why?

I might after I listen to the series. I regularly list to others series.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Sounded like a good ending. Open for future stories

How could the performance have been better?

A different reader. At least the names were american.

Any additional comments?

I am going into the series with an open mind even though I dislike the reader.

Any additional comments?

This book is set in 1974. When I listen to a police procedure book I prefer the year to be current, or at the most 10 years old. Very disappointing.

Blah.

This is my first W.E.B. Griffin book, and likely my last. If you are a fan and convince me otherwise, I'm all ears. Perhaps he grew as an author.

One cannot fault the novel for being somewhat outdated; the pay phone that requires a dime certainly reflects its time of writing. I chuckled a bit at these glimpses back in time, but I read a lot of current fiction that reaches back into history.

What I disliked are the thin, predictable characters. I endured rather than enjoyed Men in Blue.
