Publisher's summary

It's just seven days before Memorial Day, and a spike in CIA intelligence has pointed to a major terrorist attack on the United States. Now it's up to counterterrorism operative Mitch Rapp to pull out all the stops.

Rapp immediately leaves for Afghanistan, where he leads a special forces unit on a daring commando raid across the border into a remote Pakistani village. Their target: an al-Qaeda stronghold. Rapp and his team soon discover plans for a catastrophic nuclear attack on Washington, DC. Information is quickly relayed back to CIA headquarters, and a nuclear emergency support team scrambles to the scene. In a few hours, the freighters have been located and disarmed and the danger has been averted. Or has it?

Mitch Rapp can't shake the feeling that the operation seemed just a bit too easy. Rapp follows his instincts on a quest to unearth the whole truth. What he finds is truly terrifying, and with Memorial Day closing fast, Rapp must find a way to prevent a disaster of unimaginable proportions.

Riveting and very exciting

It was the usual well written book by Flynn. It is evident that he does research so that it feels authentic in all areas he touches upon. The addition of the Seals adds excitement to the stories.

Fun

This is more an action/adventure story, as opposed to a real spy novel. None the less it was a fun an enjoyable listen with much military detail (specifically the opening battle scene) that really felt authentic. I found my self googling weapons and vehicles he identified. The reading is fantastic, but George Guidall's voice is so distinct it takes you out of this story and back to previous characters. For me it was Roland the Gun Slinger. But again, he reads so well it's worth the distraction for the first portion of the story. I'm not going right on to the next book in the Rapp series, but I do look forward to it.

OUTSTANDING Thriller

Best of the Mitch Rapp series and I have pretty much enjoyed them all. This was a compelling and riveting story if an all too possible scenario. Well written and well told.

Why is the audio so bad?

I would give a 5 on performance, but the recording sounds like someone made it in their basement.

Great Book, Intense, Captivating. Loved it!

This was one of my favorites in the series thus far. It could be because i had taken a 2 month break in listening to the series, not sure, but I Loved the story line, of course loved the narrator. All around great book. Very captivating. Highly Recommend.

Back on Track

What made the experience of listening to Memorial Day the most enjoyable?

The realm of possibility always keeps me involved in a book or movie. Memorial Day certainly plays within those rules.

What other book might you compare Memorial Day to and why?

First let me say that I'm sadden by the passing of Vince Flynn and I'm listening to these books in order. American Assassin and Kill Shot... awesome! My favorite thus far. But I will say that I enjoyed Memorial Day as much as Tom Clancy's Without Remorse.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

Mitch Rapp is a bad-ass! Nuff said!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I have to be honest... not every book makes me cry... or laugh for that matter. But I was on a 50 mile bike ride when I finished the book and I didn't want it to end. Thank you Vince Flynn!

Typical Mitch Rapp - looooong pauses btwn chapters

Like the narrator much better than some of the earlier books. If you like Flynn and Rapp you won't be disappointed. The one drawback was they amount of time transitioning from one chapter of the book to the next. Probably 20 minutes in dead space between chapters in all. I kept checking my ipod to make sure I hadn't turned it off between chapters.

Great Listen

What did you love best about Memorial Day?

I like all the Mitch Rapp books by Vince Flynn. Mitch gets the job done. and doesn't let the politicians stand in his way. he keeps his books at a good pace too, so doesn't blog you down with nonessential verbage

What other book might you compare Memorial Day to and why?

I also like the Barry Eisler books. character John Rain, his books are set to a great pace too, keeps you hooked on it. I think people who read Vince Flynn would also enjoy Barry Eisler Rain series.

What does George Guidall bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Listening to the action

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Extraordinary, detailed knowledge Flynn is spectacular

Few other novelists have the detailed knowledge of how things work inside the US governments counterterrorism effort. But, more importantly, he writes a plausible storyline that could happen in our country. Americans need to pay much closer attention to the many threats facing us.
