Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown comes a heart-pounding story of survival, that takes the age-old question, "Does the end justify the means?" and turns it on its head.

Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her.

While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name. She's determined to escape him, and willing to take any risks necessary to survive.

Unexpectedly, however, the two have a dangerous encounter with people who adhere to a code of justice all their own. At the center of the dispute is a desperate young woman whom Emory can't turn her back on, even if it means breaking the law. Wrong becomes right at the hands of the man who strikes fear, but also sparks passion.

As her husband's deception is revealed, and the FBI closes in on her captor, Emory begins to wonder if the man with no name is, in fact, her rescuer from those who wish her dead - and from heartbreak.

Combining the nail-biting suspense and potent storytelling that has made Sandra Brown one of the world's best loved authors, Mean Streak is a wildly compelling novel about love, deceit, and the choices we must make in order to survive.

Good from beginning to end

I really liked this book and I'd recommend this book for all. I like that you had to figure out characters instead of a big background in them like you usually get.

Super Suspensful

The story starts in a more or less uneventful manner and quickly builds into a “What is really going on here?” suspense. As the story advances it is difficult to see who is responsible for the victim’s situation and what part others play in solving the mystery. The ending while expected in some sense shows the perpetrator to be a character no one listening to the story ever suspects until the end.

I believe this is my first Sandra Brown novel. I will most definitely be seeking out other works by Sandra Brown.

Great read

A captivating, enjoyable read. .Since I own both the Kindle & Audible editions I was able to follow along while being read to. I was impressed and enjoyed the vocal talents of narrator Jonathon Davis. I highly recommend to buy the book, read the book & get into a good author and some good characters as I have. I will definitely be purchasing more from this author. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Became a parking lot resident!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! Kept me hooked from the very beginning with surprising twists and turns along the way! Sat in several parking lots listening longer, not able to turn my car off due to the suspense factor and ran late the whole day in getting things done. But who cares....just had to find out how this was going to end. Finished this in 2 days and started listening again to catch some of the details I think I missed the first time around in my listening eagerness.

Which character – as performed by Jonathan Davis – was your favorite?

Hayes--loved his deep, yet gentle, sexy voice. He did a good job doing so many voices but wish they would have had a female preform Emory--would have made better auditory chemistry.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

At the end--after finishing her marathon--hearing the words from behind her " Good race Doc"--oh my!!

Any additional comments?

Agree with some of the other reviewers --there was too much unnecessary detail regarding their lovemaking--Sandra could have gotten the idea of the intensity of their physical connection without describing every move. I think this story has so much potential for a sequel!!

Good book!

It had a slow start but overall i thought it was an intriguing story and i was excited to find out what happens. There’s a few little twists you definitely don’t expect. I loved Envy and this was good as well.

Great story. Not the best narrator...

I liked this book! The only problem, for me, was the narrator. He was not bad, except for the accents and different voices. The voice of the main male character changed so many times. And, the detective from NY should have had a NY accent. The southern police officers didn’t sound Southern at all. Accents were very inconsistent.
The narration makes the audiobook!
