Publisher's summary

From number one New York Times best-selling author Sandra Brown comes a heart-pounding story of survival, that takes the age-old question, "Does the end justify the means?" and turns it on its head.

Dr. Emory Charbonneau, a pediatrician and marathon runner, disappears on a mountain road in North Carolina. By the time her husband Jeff, miffed over a recent argument, reports her missing, the trail has grown cold. Literally. Fog and ice encapsulate the mountainous wilderness and paralyze the search for her.

While police suspect Jeff of "instant divorce," Emory, suffering from an unexplained head injury, regains consciousness and finds herself the captive of a man whose violent past is so dark that he won't even tell her his name. She's determined to escape him, and willing to take any risks necessary to survive.

Unexpectedly, however, the two have a dangerous encounter with people who adhere to a code of justice all their own. At the center of the dispute is a desperate young woman whom Emory can't turn her back on, even if it means breaking the law. Wrong becomes right at the hands of the man who strikes fear, but also sparks passion.

As her husband's deception is revealed, and the FBI closes in on her captor, Emory begins to wonder if the man with no name is, in fact, her rescuer from those who wish her dead - and from heartbreak.

Combining the nail-biting suspense and potent storytelling that has made Sandra Brown one of the world's best loved authors, Mean Streak is a wildly compelling novel about love, deceit, and the choices we must make in order to survive.

WOW!!! What a surprise ending!!!

This was a five star book from beginning to end. I was captivated from page one. I could not get enough of this book. Just when you think you have this book figured out, there is another twist that leaves you shaking your head saying no way. This book left me wanting more. I was upset when it ended.

I highly recommend this book. As with all Sandra Brown's books you will not be disappointed. She is a wonderful story teller and Jonathan Davis is an excellent narrator.

Another hit by Sandra Brown

Loved this story...especially loved the Hayes character and how his issues turned out to not be what we all thought they were.

TLDR, pretty good! Spoilers Incoming!

I really liked the overall concept of this book. It went in many directions I didn't expect, like Emory getting back to civilization so fast and Hayes whisking her away. My few issues are one, how easily Emory gave into Hayes (I think that's his name). Not that he was pressuring her but she was all about having sex with someone that she thought might've kidnapped her. So many things and issues could have been entirely avoided if he had just come clean. "I found you on a trail and it looks like someone tried to bash your head in with a rock, here's the rock, I know it sounds awful buuuuut..."
I truly did love the breaks away with the detective looking for Hayes, giving us the impression that he was, in fact, guilty of something awful (though I did suspect otherwise). It was also amazing of Sandra here to get us into Emory's husband's head, that even though he wasn't involved, he was shit enough person to have been severely disappointed in Emory being alive. Overall though, loved it!

The story had me spellbound. The narrator was amazing. I will definitely look out for both of them again.

The ending redeemed this story...

I enjoyed this listen but it was quite dull during much of the story. The unique ending made up for that. I felt cheated, getting the best part of the story when it was over. The narrator sounded like a radio dj to me, I didn't like him but he was tolerable.
