    "Great Historical Novel"

I love this series. It is very atmospheric and gives you a real idea of what detection of ordinary crimes was like in occupied France. Of course there ae not really ordinary crimes in WW2 France which did not ultimately involve the Gestapo - so we have an unlikely pair who are friends - a Gestapo agent and an Insp. General of the Securite. It make for an interesting duo.

The narrator is excellent with his heavy French accent and French pronounciation of English words gives the book a whole lot of atmosphere. He really adds to the story.

This particular mystery involved an unidentified corpse found in Fontainbleu Forest. The Reistance is suspected. But there is whole lot more to this -- it takes unexpected twist and turns, involved prominent families, and an intervention from the main Paris office of the Gestapo. At the end the duo, are in semi-disgrace and sent off to investiage the murder on a Carouset -- they exposed a few too many secret!

It captures the atmophere of wartime France like no other series of novels have for me. I highly recommend this series.
