Publisher's summary

Twelve miles above the Pacific Ocean, a missile strikes a jumbo passenger jet and leaves the flight crew either crippled or dead. This is the story of how three survivors must achieve the impossible and land the plane. Master storyteller Nelson DeMille and veteran pilot Thomas Block collaborated on Mayday, the most terrifyingly realistic air disaster thriller of all time.

Reviews

It is always interesting to see the reviews and what turns ones crank and turns off another. In the past, I have found myself looking at the negative reviews too much. This book was impossible to put down. It totally sucked in my attention. Riveting. Doesn't leave the ghosts of Up Country, but the action is always at hand and never overly drawn out. Worth every penny. We need more Demille books.

Couldn't turn it off

I rarely give a book a 5 star rating and then it's usually something that has some kind of a profound message or story (Kite Runner-Memoirs of a Geshia) but although this wasn't that kind of book, it was a fantastic read. I finally turned it off at 3 am (had to work the next day) and started it again as I made breakfast.

If you are looking for a far better than normal read, performed perfectly by Scott Brick, this is it.

Awesome!!!!

This is my favorite audio book author!!!! What a great story......you can feel the tension and the trauma the characters endure. Before the first hour went by, I was so hooked that I just could not go to sleep! (Don't worrey there are several surprises and lots ok):

Like finding an unexpected $20 in your pocket

What did you love best about Mayday?

The technical creepiness

What other book might you compare Mayday to and why?

By The Waters of Babylon

Any additional comments?

I put off purchasing this book last because it wasn't "pure" Nelson DeMille. What a pleasant surprise it was. Demille & Block sure make a great writing team.

Mixed Emotions

My review title truly expresses my feeling about this tome. I enjoyed the story line, albeit from outter space (no pun intended) and it kept me interested and entertained. But I found this book to be overladen with insignificant manushia that in this readers (listeners) mind to be fluff/filler. (the aforementioned equaled the removal of half a star)

(the following represents the removal of 1-1/2 stars) I found the reader of the narrative to be terrible, with no inflections, voice variances for different characters or apparent involvement with the action-at-hand! To describe the reader in one word, I found him to be "static". Aside from the two issues mentioned, I enjoyed the "read"!

Read before your next flight

DeMille's rewrite of a great book is even better with the newer setting. As always, DeMille’s wit and mastering of the written English language delivers a spellbinding listening experience. DeMille’s boyhood friend Thomas Block lends his knowledge and insight of flight to enhance the reading experience of this book by making the technical stuff unquestionable. The suspense of several sequences in this book had me riveted to the radio in my car (I listen via my Apple Nano). I can’t wait for his next book, I don’t know how I missed this book, I have read all of DeMille’s stuff.

Love, Love, Loved it!!!

Wow, if all audible books were this great, I wouldn't have a life in the outside
world. Once you start, it has you. I was a hostage.
