I am totally engaged in listening to Susan Ericksen's narration of this series. She manages to show the personalities of the characters so well!! I have listened to the first "in death" book up to this one all in order. It's been fun to see how Peabody develops as a great cop and how Eve and Roark's relationship evolves. I laugh out loud at some of their conversations, but there is always that sincere love for each other that keeps me wanting to listen to the next book! Keep up the good work J D Robb and Susan Ericksen!!

Excellent Narration

The J.D. Robb, Eve Dallas series, is one of the best. Susan Ericksen's gift for capturing the characters' persona hits the mark every time. I have listened to 20 of these audio books and read the others. I intend to eventually buy those I've read so I can enjoy Susan's narration. The story lines are always very interesting and some of the humorous lines have me laughing out loud. Somehow, J.D. Robb is able to make the love making between her and Roark different in every book and a wonderful experience without seeming tawdry or vulgar, even though at times their banter can be; however, it is usually very humorous. Keep writing them J.D. I just finished the latest, Kindred in Death, and as usual the narration was top notch.

One of My Favorites in the Series

What did you love best about Loyalty in Death?

I loved that we got to know more about Peabody in this book. I have always wanted more of her character in the other books, and finally here she gets her own storyline.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

As with all of the books in this series I was compelled to finish this book in one listen. I am always driven to find out whether or not I have figured out who is behind the murders. And if I'm right--I love being right. And if I'm wrong--I love being pleasantly surprised. It's a win-win situation.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Susan Ericksen does a phenomenal job of bringing the characters to life and making each one distinct. She gives the characters voices that you wouldn't think up on your own if you just read the book, but they each fit the characters so well.
In this book in particular, I loved how she portrayed Ratso. I couldn't stop laughing.

Any additional comments?

This book, as with the others in this series, is well worth the credit!

Honest revelation

I have started re-listening to the In Death series from the beginning, and writing reviews as I go because I did not review them the first time around.. I have come to some revelations and firm conclusions: Eve Dallas can be a truly unlikeable bitch. When she is in that mode I cannot stand her character. From time to time she can be gentle and likable, but that is seldom. She doesn't apologize to the people she hurts. Mostly she lashes out at Peabody and Peabody is the dearest and most likable character created by JD Robb Roark is a saint for what he puts up with from Eve. Eve is so rude to Sommersett and shows him no respect fat all when she knows that Roark loves him as if he were his father and Sommersett has treated Roark as a son, and has even saved his life.

Eve is incredibly rude and overbearing with the public she comes into contact with in her investigations. She is immature and hateful in her dealings with the public. Her constant angst with her childhood also gets on my nerves. Enough already. Go to a physchaitrist and deal with it.

Mavis gets on my nerves. All of her ult, mag, ice, etc slang gets on my nerves. Her screechy voice/singomg and manic personality gets on my nerves, but sometime I still like her

To be fair, it is amazing that Robb can write so well that I still listen. twice. while I have so many negative reactions to the main characters. One thing that helps is that Roark is a wonderful character and the narrator is fantastic - she is one of the main reasons that this audible series is so fantastic

In this book Peabody is being visited by her very sweet free-age brother who has a love interest in NYC - sadly she is married Dee Peabody is also dealing with love interest from a co-worker at the Police Dept. Eve and her team are investigation mayhem and murder by a terror group called Cassandra. They are targeting Eve and others at various sites ion the City. Usual police procedural plot for that part.
Despite my negative thoughts I still am addicted to this series. It is interesting, plus I am waiting for Eve to start becoming a better person. she needs to CHILL.

Well done!

This series keeps getting better! I don't know how JDRobb does it, but the stories and plots are continually fresh and full of twisty-goodness.

This plot is intricate and well developed. I didn't figure it out until right before the end.

The narrator is excellent!

I recommend the series for those mystery buffs, that like a lot of romance thrown in for good measure!

Loved every book by JD Robb

Police drama with a twist. All the "in Death" novels are filled with wonderful characters you'll miss when you finish the book and you'll be delighted to visit with them again in the next. I've read about 20 and I can't wait to read more.
Oh, and if you've ever thought "Not for me, I don't like Sci Fi" think again. The futuristic aspect won't spoil it for you, I promise.

Loyalty in Death

Once again this is an outstanding book by jd robb. I love this entire series and have alwasys been a true fan. I really love the fact that the auther choosed to keep the same narrator for all the in death series which makes it so much better to continue to follow the story line as the powerful, passionate couple of Roake and Eve progress onward. I recommend this book and the whole in death series!

Prediction for Sept 25, 2023

I’ll bet when the author wrote this, Sept 2023 must have seen so far off. This series is set in the future, but the story in this installment ties into to a huge terrorist attack on September 25, 2023. Kind of weird that I just happened to listen in 2023.

I found the terrorist plot a little too out there due to the hazy motivations of the Cassandra organization and its immense resources normally only seen by villains in a Bond movie. Unlike Bond movies, however, there’s a huge body count of attack victims here (mostly of the redshirt variety, but still). A subplot involving Peabody’s Free-Life brother was also a bit obvious and made Zeke out to be this caricature dim hippie. Like all of the series books, however, if you embrace the B-movie action vibe, it’s consistently entertaining.

What made this book a must listen for me is Peabody finally getting some hot-N-heavy action. I saw the signs coming for several books now, so the payoff here was a lot of fun.
