Husband-and-wife treasure hunters Sam and Remi Fargo run afoul of a dictator who uses false facts about Aztec history to further his claim to power in this #1 New York Times-bestselling series.

While scuba diving in Tanzania, Sam and Remi Fargo come upon a relic belonging to a long-lost Confederate ship. An anomaly about the relic sets them off chasing a mystery—but unknown to them, a much more powerful force is engaged in the same chase. Mexico’s ruling party, the ultranationalist Mexica Tenochca, is intent on finding that artifact as well, because it contains a secret that could destroy the party utterly.

Through Tanzania and Zanzibar, into the rainforests of Madagascar, and across the Indian Ocean to Indonesia and the legendary site of the 1883 Krakatoa explosion, the Fargos and their ruthless opponents pursue the hunt—but only one can win. And the penalty for failure is death.

Although this wasn’t one of his best books, this was still an enjoyable read. I always enjoy the twists and turns that Sam and Remi run into and this book was no exception. The writing and intrigue just wasn’t quite up to Cussler’s standard. I have read most of Clive Cussler’s books, and so far this is the one I enjoyed the least. I only gave it a three stars because of its lackluster writing and confusing historical information. Will this keep me from reading the rest of Sam and Remi’s adventures … absolutely not. But it didn’t make me want to immediately read the next book in the series.

OK, but not one of his best books.

Usually listen to Louis L'Amour (Jason Culp is my fav LL narrator). Ran out of L'Amour books so started on Clive Cussler. Great story, great intonations. Gives some neat history tidbits too that you can bring up at a cocktail party. Scott Brick is the "Jason Culp" of the Clive Cussler books.

Great Story
