Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling master J. A. Jance brings back J. P. Beaumont, one of the most enduring and endearing characters in contemporary fiction, in a riveting story about a shocking, long-buried case of murder.

After more than 20 years of distinguished service with the Seattle Police Department, Jonas Piedmont Beaumont is now working for the Washington State Attorney's Special Homicide Investigation Team or, as it's more commonly referred to, the SHIT squad. But the more things change, the more they stay the same.

An eyewitness to a 50-year-old murder has just come forward, and Beau has been hand-picked to lead the investigation. While undergoing hypnotherapy, a middle-aged nun unexpectedly recalls the grisly details of a cold-blooded killing she witnessed when she was five years old. Though fear has kept these memories repressed for half a century, they've now risen to the surface to cast a harsh light on a deadly plot that spans two generations. And Beau's caught in the glare, facing a ruthless band of coconspirators willing to go to any lengths to keep their secrets hidden.

Filled with all of the Jance trademarks, heart-stopping suspense, deeply drawn characters, local flavor, intelligence, and humanity, Long Time Gone is a crowning achievement in this best-selling author's career.

"Taut, colorful....The clever and complex plot line involving the nun shows Jance at her best." (Publishers Weekly)

Excellent, as usual

2 stories in one, the Porshe is smashed again, and a new possible love interest. What more can ya ask for? One story is a cold case with a fiesty nun and the other is a murder involving JP's longtime friends. Great story.

Not my favorite

I have been following this series and found this one a little corny. Didn’t care for the narrator he made it seem as he was reading to a group of first graders

Wince if you're from Seattle

A very good listen; deftly carries on two investigations simultaneously. However, it is plain the narrator is not from Seattle.

I am a resident of the Seattle area and it is fun knowing the cities, streets and landmarks. It is disconcerting to have so many of them mispronounced and detracts from an otherwise good story. Narrators should review the locations and be more familiar with names and places.

Get Gene Back

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I love the series but miss Gene. Tim Jerome did not do justice to any of the characters.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I love the series

Would you be willing to try another one of Tim Jerome’s performances?

I will but only to finish the series.

need a local narrator

What did you love best about Long Time Gone?

The story and knowing so many of the landmarks and towns is quite fun!

What did you like best about this story?

Like the unlikely witnesses and villains. Unbelievable story lines come together with amazing ways

How could the performance have been better?

Pronouncement of the the towns, areas, lakes and geographical features! The narrator is not bad, quite good but please, please, please pronounce Puyallup correctly? Among so many others. Really do not want the narrator to have a bad review just...

Any additional comments?

PLEASE BRING THE ORIGINAL NARRATOR BACK. Please and thank you!

Broad Book

Yes the narrator was bad and the voices worse but the story line and slow thought processes were repeated over and over yet not thought through. I wish I had gotten the abridged version it is half as long and should be only half as boring. No Mystery and no Thrills, Beaumont is not the hard nose hero but a mushy poof ball with lots of feeling to work through. This might make a OK chick flick... Broad Book. My first and last J. A. Jance / J. P. Beaumont novel.

A 5 star book with the wrong narrator

If you like J A Jance's J P Beaumont series, try it with the right narrator, Gene Engene!
This one just did not capture the "flavor" of Beau or of Seattle!

Poor narrator

This is a new narrator for this series. That is difficult to adjust to, but this person makes even harder. He only does two accents, vague Irish and poor Spanish. Since none of the characters share these ethnic backgrounds, it is jarring to hear.

Fell in Love with Gene Engene

I started this series on a whim and fell in love with JP's long time narrator Gene Engene. While the story is good, it was difficult for me to listen to a JP Beaumont book and not hear Gene. Also, there were some inconsistencies in the storyline. Specifically in regard to Rosemary Peters. I'm not sure I will finish the series out.
