Publisher's summary

Charlaine Harris' popular Southern Vampire mysteries have been described by Publishers Weekly as "humorous Southern-fried fantasy" with a little bit of romance.

In the follow up to Dead Until Dark, telepathic friend of the undead (and vampire bar cocktail waitress) Sookie Stackhouse puts her newfound powers to the test. After an unfortunate incident, Sookie finds herself beholden to a group of Louisiana vampires. So she agrees to travel to Dallas with her undead boyfriend Bill and track down a missing vamp, but only if the vampires promise to let local humans go unharmed. That seems easier said than done when an upstart religious cult threatens to destroy all things vampire - including Sookie, who is quickly scheduled for sacrifice.

Silly book but great narration!

I loved this book. The narration was terrific and really captured the Sookie character perfectly. Enjoyed this so much I read the whole series on my ipad. Would rather have listened to it on the ipad but had trouble getting audible books on it.

Vampires and a bar maid, what a concept. Like reading Harlequin Romances for the undead. Perfect for vacation listening on the beach. Well plotted and fun.

Witty and wonderful

Another murder has occurred in Bon Temps. Lafayette, the cook at Merlottes, where Sookie works, is found dead, with his heart cut out in the back of a local detective's car.

Then Sookie is accosted by another creature of the night called an ancient Maenad who attacks, poisons, and almost kills her. The vampires, Bill, Eric, and Pam, save her. When this happened she was on her way to meet them for an assignment. In the previous novel she had agreed to take assignments to help them using her telepathic powers.

A vampire in Dallas has gone missing and Eric, the head Vampire, asks Sookie to help locate him. In Dallas she learns about a group called the Fellowship of the Sun, an anti-vampire hate church. Sounds like some other fanatical religious groups. Sookie must find the missing vampire and then get back to Bon Temps to solve the murder of Lafayette.

I am getting hooked on the Sookie series and captivated by the world the author has created. Harris (the author) continues to draw the reader in with more tidbits about vampires and their habits and how they relate to humans. Sookie is quirky, witty, lovable and a fun character who has a sexy, although blah, Vampire love interest named Bill. Sam, Sookie's boss, is a shape shifter who we met in the first book.

The books are light, funny and fast-paced. They are fun to read, with laugh out loud pages. I'd highly recommend them to anyone who likes paranormal/romance/ mystery or just a really fun read but don’t try to compare them to something else. Let them stand on their own.

Super satisfied

My opinion is slightly biased as I read all the books in high school BUT I really do enjoy the narrators voice, real easy to get sucked in.

The Best Narrarator Since.....

Ok - I saw another review some place that indicated that the Sookie narrarator was as good or better than Jim Dale (of the Harry Potter audio). Of course this peaked my interest, as no one is as good as Jim! Although, Johanna Parker is neck in neck with him. She so thouroughly pulls you into the story with each character, situation, etc. She really understands the author's intent and has you laughing out loud! I love this series. If you like the whole paranormal/vampire genre (with a little romance and LOTS of humor) this series is for you!

Just as good as the first book

Charlaine Harris does it again.
The same narrator is used from the first book and she does not dissapoint.

If you enjoyed the first book, then you will enjoy the second installment as well.
