Publisher's summary

Charlaine Harris' popular Southern Vampire mysteries have been described by Publishers Weekly as "humorous Southern-fried fantasy" with a little bit of romance.

In the follow up to Dead Until Dark, telepathic friend of the undead (and vampire bar cocktail waitress) Sookie Stackhouse puts her newfound powers to the test. After an unfortunate incident, Sookie finds herself beholden to a group of Louisiana vampires. So she agrees to travel to Dallas with her undead boyfriend Bill and track down a missing vamp, but only if the vampires promise to let local humans go unharmed. That seems easier said than done when an upstart religious cult threatens to destroy all things vampire - including Sookie, who is quickly scheduled for sacrifice.

Living Dead in Dallas

This book travels around a lot and gets the characters out and about to peek our interest of other vamp areas. While Sookie is working for the vamps she no longer worries about humans as she never felt human anyway. They are accepting her as one of thier own.

Loved it!

I'm way behind the masses reading this series. I put off reading them because the tv show got way too wild and weird for me. My best friend assured me I need to stick with the show, it gets better. I probably will after I read the books. I really liked book one and liked this one even better. I think the narration was spot on perfect. Excellent voice in each character, especially Sookie.

Seen the TV show? Download the book.

I could say that Charlaine Harris has done it again, but that would imply that this book is as good as the first. Actually, it is better, simply because we've met Sookie and the other characters and have some backstory and character development to build on mentally. I was fresh off a Sookie-thon viewing of the 2nd season TV series, and I expected the two to be fairly similar. Not so much! The TV series is beautifully written; Charlaine Harris could have written the screenplays. However, the book is a work in itself and is a separate story, so I feel like I got two versions for the price of one, so to speak. The joy of the book is in the creativity the author has, but specifically the turn of a phrase. Charlaine continually delights me with one well-turned phrase after another, and her depiction of Sookie as a down-to-earth type girl who is rapidly being educated in the ways of the world. Her character is becoming a little wiser, a little more sophisticated, a bit more discerning. Johanna Parker is spot-on with her accents; if you enjoyed her narration in the first book you'll love this one too. Although the books are relatively short, they are totally worth the credit. Go ahead, download and listen even if you've been watching the series, you won't go wrong.

Best narrator that I have ever heard.

The book was fantastic, but the narrator was the brightest point. She has that Sookie southern thing down perfectly. I'm going to by other books she has performed.

surprisingly good

I gave a lot of people a lot of s*** for liking vampire romance novels but this one is surprisingly good! I liked it! Don't like how soft spoken Bill and Sam are! Personally I liked the show version of Bill and Sam better.

Good story throughout

It is a good story and I am getting used to Johanna Parkers male voice reading.
Much different than the HBO series, both are fine stories.

Pink spandex...that's one for the books!

What did you love best about Living Dead in Dallas?

My favorite part was actually at the end when Sookie and Eric are preparing to go to the orgy and Eric reveals his costume which is a pink t shirt and pink spandex...I actually laughed out loud.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Living Dead in Dallas?

Other than that pink spandex moment....I did like the ending wheras Bill has a human moment discovering his heritage line with the Bellefleur family. I did like this story better than book one. I have already seen the HBO series and the books are far better. I do like the chemistry between Sookie and Eric and hope that it will last for many books in the series

Which scene was your favorite?

My favorite was as I said earlier when Eric enters Sookie's house and reveals his outfit. I also liked the character Luna in this book, she's tough , but comical at the same. I'm wondering if the other werewolf in the car with Debbie was Alcide?

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I could not stop laughing when the author was describing Eric's outfit for the orgy scene.

Any additional comments?

This book was better than the first and better than the HBO series. I liked that there was little focus on the maenad and I wished there could have been more focus on the chemistry between sookie and Eric and that more of the nature of this book could have found itself in the HBO series. I was shocked that Tara has such a small role in the series so far and that Lafayette is dead. It was a better read, but I do wish that the author would be more erotic in her writing of the steamy scenes, and that Sookie could be less hot tempered. She is more likeable in the HBO series than so far in the books...however I've only read the first two.
