Publisher's summary

Jon Soliday is legal counsel to a powerful politician - also his childhood best friend - who is running for governor. The two have shared political success and undying loyalty. They also share a dark secret from the summer of 1979: a party that resulted in the death of a teenage girl. Soliday was implicated, but through his friend's political connections, escaped legal trouble.

Soliday remembers little from that night, but carries an uncertain guilt he can't shake. Now, as the players from 1979 fall prey to an unknown killer, Soliday himself is accused of murder. And as the puzzle unfolds, the people he most suspects are those he has entrusted with his defense - his ambitious defense attorney and his oldest friend.

A man's past, both what he remembers and what he fears, has never felt so crushing - and may well leave him without a future.

my first Ellis

A reading friend recommended I give David Ellis a try so I did and this was my first Ellis experience. It was a good lawyer, court room whodunnit. One thing that was interesting was that Dick Hill was the narrator, he's also the narrator for the Lee Childs' Jack Reacher character. It took a couple of chapters to get used to it not being a Jack Reacher story. Still the author spun a good yarn and it was entertainig.

Entertaining but far fetched

The story was not believable. Petsonally I like a plot that does not involve the good furtune of a wizard that can align all moons with the stars to succeed in the crime. It is mote fun if you have a chanse to figure it out.

Great talent - wonderfully narrated.

This was my first David Ellis novel but it wasn't my last. As soon as I finished this I was gathering up the rest of David's works. His journey as a novelist has been a great one. I didn't love his first two books but he improves so much with age. This one was brilliant ! Dick Hill as always is a great narrator that just adds to the enjoyment.

Crafty & Entertaining Plot: Well Read.

If you could sum up Life Sentence in three words, what would they be?

well-crafted, entertaining, well-read

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It opens slowly, sometimes not clear about what is happening, then click by click it unfolds.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Too long for that, but yes.

OK book

It was just ok. Nothing special - worth the "free" credit, I guess. Maybe.
