Publisher's Summary

In Linda Fairstein's outstanding new novel, the New York Public Library houses dazzling treasures and deadly secrets.

When Assistant District Attorney Alex Cooper is summoned to Tina Barr's apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side, she finds a neighbor convinced that the young woman was assaulted. But the terrified victim, a conservator of rare books and maps, refuses to cooperate with investigators. Then another woman is found murdered in that same apartment with an extremely valuable book, believed to have been stolen. As Alex pursues the murderer, she is drawn into the strange and privileged world of the Hunt family, major benefactors of the New York Public Library and passionate rare book collectors.

Eventually Alex connects their internal family rivalries to a priceless edition of Alice in Wonderland, which also contains the world's oldest map. Would one of the well-bred Hunts be willing to kill for the treasures? The search for the answer takes Alex and her team on a breathtaking chase from Manhattan's grandest apartments to the secret tunnels and chambers of the New York Public Library, and finally to a 19th-century underground vault. There, in the pitch-black darkness, Alex comes face-to-face with the killer who values money more than life.

Featuring a cast of elite, erudite, and downright eccentric characters, and a complex trail of clues that will have you guessing until the final pages, Lethal Legacy is Linda Fairstein's most beguiling thriller yet.

"Love the history of New York"

I love the characters in Linda's books. The stories always wrap up too quickly and with too many details of the mystery in the last few pages. Fairstein's books are full of wonderful and interesting trivia. Barbara Rosenblat's narration is, as always, first rate.

    "Great Story"

Linda Fairstein always gives great insight to the history of NYC, Lethal Legacy is no exception. I could almost feel and smell the old books in the basement of the NYC Public Library. Barbara Rosenblats voices for the main characters is always a treat. I really like the voice for Mike, it always make me smile when she says "Coop or Blondie."

    "a pleasure!"

I am not sure how anyone can find Barbara Rosenblat's narration to be a problem -- I always enjoy her, even through the short moments of over-enthusiasm. She has the characters, the accents, the voices and unless the audio set up favours too much the high end and it's coming through earphones rather than speakers, I cannot see how anyone would be bothered by extraneous noise.

Linda Fairstein delivers a great story, lots of learning about New York, antique books and maps, and fabulous characters, as usual.

"On The Fence With This Book"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The history "lessons" throughout the book so far have been annoying an unrealistic. I cannot imagine detectives spending so much time listening to someone ramble on about the history of a library and books when a murderer is on the loose. It seems like the Ms Fairstein wanted to write a history book instead of a murder mystery.

    "POOOOOOR Narrator"

I love Linda Fairstein's novels but have been unable to listen to Rosenblat. I don't believe she has captured the returning charecters and that makes it very unpleasant. Anyone new to Alex Cooper and Mike Chapman may love her interpretations, but I have read every previous book the old fashioned way and this reader isn't doing it for me.

    "HORRIFIC reader ... Buyer BEWARE"

If you want to listen to Barbara Rosenblat suck cough drops and swallow her saliva and gasp for breath during every pause; by all means feel free to waste a credit on this book.

It was so annoying that I stopped listening after 10 minutes.

While I love Linda Fairstein, and ordered her entire "Alex Cooper" series, the reader makes it impossible to listen to them.

Sorry to have wasted my $$$ and credits.
