Loved it!

A friend referred me to Josi's series and I am so glad that she did. This book was more than I expected, it was not a shallow story. The book was not filled with sex or swearing, just a very interesting story about friendship, caring, and not giving up. I hope that the rest of the books are as interesting as this one. When I really like books, I will go back in a couple years and relisten. This will go on my "to listen to again" list.

Childish female characters and voices

Would you try another book from Josi S. Kilpack and/or Diane Dabczynski?

No.

Would you be willing to try another book from Josi S. Kilpack? Why or why not?

No. The female characters, even the mature ones, act in an inane manner. I cannot give specifics without giving away the plot. The plot itself was not bad.

What didn’t you like about Diane Dabczynski’s performance?

I do not care for mature female characters--the main character is a 56-year-old woman--who talk like 11-year-old girls and have priorities to match.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I was disappointed in the lack of maturity of the characters.

Horrible

Would you try another book from Josi S. Kilpack and/or Diane Dabczynski?

No

What was most disappointing about Josi S. Kilpack’s story?

As a woman who prides herself as being domestic as well as a professional, I find the main character too silly. It's almost insulting.

Spoiled by the main character

I was hoping to like the first book of what looked like an interesting series and go on to read the other books, but the main character was so annoying that I don't want to see any more of her. I had a hard time believing that an adult would have to have it explained to her by her college-aged daughter that she was being unreasonable to expect the police investigating a murder to give her -- a neighbor of the murder victim -- regular updates on their progress. She expected to waltz into a lawyer's office and have the lawyer tell her all about the affairs of a client. She got all indignant about a detective asking her to hand over some documents that had belonged to the murder victim and claimed that she had given them all the evidence she had while managing to hide a business card that the murder victim had had. She seemed immature and naive for her age.

On the other hand, the mystery was interesting (though the amateur detective only figured out what had happened when the murderer confessed to her) and the narrator was good. Still, I'm not inclined to give the character another chance.

Not a great narrator for the story

Really not impressed with the breathy sounding narrator, especially when doing male voices. Way too soft! n n n n

Cheesy, but good.

It was a little cheesy and you can definitely tell the author is from Utah with how the main character acted. But the mystery part was enjoyable.

Great potential.....But overall, a disappointment.

Excellent performance. Great looking recipes. Very good story. Terribly unlikable protagonist. The star of this show is childish, self-important, straight up stupid, sanctimonious, hypocritical, manipulative, and so oblivious to her flaws that it's cringy. If she had flaws and simply didn't care about them, I could accept that as a simple failure of character. To have so many flaws, and be blissfully unaware of them, is so much worse.

it's a real shame, because the writing is very very good. I enjoyed the story very much. The narrator does a wonderful job. The recipes look pretty awesome. And the rest of the characters were pretty well written. But Sadie is practically unbearable. Good luck if you take a chance on this one. I'm so disappointed. There are so many books in the series I was really hoping to love this. Definitely check out all the recipes though, they look great.
