Publisher's summary

New secrets, old flames, and hidden agendas are about to send bounty hunter Stephanie Plum on her most outrageous adventure yet!

MISTAKE #1
Dickie Orr
Stephanie was married to him for about fifteen minutes before she caught him cheating on her with her archnemesis, Joyce Barnhardt. Another fifteen minutes after that, Stephanie filed for divorce, hoping never to see either one of them again.

MISTAKE #2
Doing favors for super bounty hunter Carlos Manoso (aka Ranger)
Ranger needs Stephanie to meet with Dickie and find out if he's doing something shady. Turns out, he is. Turns out, Dickie's also back to doing Joyce Barnhardt. And it turns out Ranger's favors always come with a price. . . .

MISTAKE #3
Going completely nutso while doing the favor for Ranger, and trying to apply bodily injury to Dickie in front of the entire office
Now Dickie has disappeared, and Stephanie is the natural suspect in his disappearance. Is Dickie dead? Can he be found? And can Stephanie Plum stay one step ahead in this new, dangerous game? Joe Morelli, the hottest cop in Trenton, New Jersey, is also keeping Stephanie on her toes---and he may know more than he's saying about many things in Stephanie's life. It's a cat-and-mouse game for Stephanie Plum wherein the ultimate prize might be her life.

With Janet Evanovich's flair for hilarious situations, breathtaking action, and unforgettable characters, Lean Mean Thirteen shows why no one can beat Evanovich for blockbuster entertainment.

As always great fun

Tops my list of entertainment reading together with Tim Dorsey. Why not put Stephanie and Sergio together in a book?

Lean Mean Thirteen

I absolutely loved this story, all the suspense. I laughed so much when Lula was trying to fix the toilet and she got the water to fill up and it overflowed, and then she just handed the lady the knob because it wasn’t working. And then The microwave where Lula opened it up and all the screws came out and then she just handed the microwave to the guy and she said well at least they won’t smell those bean burritos anymore. And I have to agree I would like to strangle Dickey Ore myself he is a horses patootie. Screwing Joyce Barnes while he was married to Stephanie. I was concerned when she got broadsided by the car, but fortunately the super bad guy flamed his self and he was crushed under the crusher. And hopefully they send out an APB warning for the other two guys, Dave and Rudy. Absolutely loved all the drama of this one it was amazing!

Actor for Morelli

Was listening to your interview I think Adrian Paul would make a great Morelli for the series

Same flavor, different package

"Thirteen" is good if you liked "Twelve"; if you did not, then skip it. Props to Ms Evanovich for the exploding taxidermy, for Grandma Mazur's continuing romantic exploits, for Tank and Lula's ongoing intrigue (we learn Tank's first name in this one), and for more plausible FTAs. It's a pleasure to see Stephanie becoming more capable and self-sufficent. Morelli is conveniently absent for much of the story and Stephanie is with Ranger. Both guys are likable characters, Ranger has more dimension than in the books before #12 but the continuing three-way with Ranger and Morelli is just not believable. (Steph, go with Ranger.) Glad there were not sightings of the idiot sister Valerie in this book. I get the impression that Ms. Evanovich is reframing her formula for these books and I like the change.

Great fun!

This is one of my favorite audiobooks ever! I've read (and loved!) all the Stephanie Plum novels, but this is the first one I've tried listening to. This narrator does a great job with all the different voices and the pacing. The book works great as an audiobook -it's light and easy to follow and really had me looking forward to my daily walks! The only problem is the funny looks I get when I laugh out loud walking down the street! I loved it!

Doesn't disappoint

If you could sum up Lean Mean Thirteen in three words, what would they be?

This series is just a fun, light read. Laugh out loud funny. My 20+ something daughter and her friends have listened to part with me and ask for more! (They'd rather do a craft and listen to the book with me than watch a movie - go figure!) I also appreciate that there is some heat with Stephanie's love interests but nothing that would send me from the room when listening in mixed company!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really on the edge of my seat, but the story moves along quickly and keeps you wondering what antics Stephanie and Lola will get up to next.

What about Lorelei King’s performance did you like?

Excellent performance, very distinct characterizations.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh out loud funny

Still laugh out loud fun

As usual the ride with Stephanie is a hoot. No matter how ridiculous or how many cars Stephanie detroys I still find myself laughing out loud. We learn, still more, about Ranger and Tank in this book. As usual, Evanovich is flirting with the male ego's by allowing the relationship with Ranger to continue while Joe is still, very much, in the picture. The million dollar question, does Stephanie choose Mr. family man Joe or Ranger danger, the guy that 's not family man material???
Interesting that Joe is now seeing Stephanie as a woman capable of taking care of herself. Even more interesting who Stephanie called first at the end. This is why the Plumb series is so much fun. Keep'em coming Ms. Evanovich we love it all!!!

Can't beat Janet Evanovich

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Always entertaining and the characters are unbelievable at times but that's what makes all her books great.

What does Lorelei King bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Lorelei is Stephanie Plum.

Believably unbelievable

The story is believably unbelievable with all the usual characters!

Add to the mix Dickie Ore (from the first book in the series), Stephanie’s ex-husband/lawyer and his girlfriend, Joyce Barnhardt, who is out to punish Stephanie.

Ranger asks Stephanie to plant a bug on Dickie Orr and in the process, she finds lots of reasons to be enraged at Dickie who soon vanishes.

Stephanie, the funniest female bounty hunter you will ever read about, makes the book hilarious, action-packed and a page turner. Evanovich's writing is much like the title: lean and mean.

The bail jumpers are an unusual lot: One is a mild threat unless you light a fire around his house; another is a grave rober of those who are buried with jewels and clothes he can wear when he's not playing with his 20 foot-long snake; and a third is an unusual taxidermist who doesn't want to leave home because he's waiting for someone.

As I said, believably unbelievable!
