Publisher's summary

For the second time in his short life, Teddy Clock has survived a massacre. Two years ago, he barely escaped when his entire family was slaughtered. Now, at 14, in a hideous echo of the past, Teddy is the lone survivor of his foster family’s mass murder. Orphaned once more, the traumatized teenager has nowhere to turn - until the Boston PD puts Detective Jane Rizzoli on the case. Determined to protect this young man, Jane discovers that what seemed like a coincidence is instead just one horrifying part of a relentless killer’s merciless mission.

Jane spirits Teddy to the exclusive Evensong boarding school, a sanctuary where young victims of violent crime learn the secrets and skills of survival in a dangerous world. But even behind locked gates, and surrounded by acres of sheltering Maine wilderness, Jane fears that Evensong’s mysterious benefactors aren’t the only ones watching. When strange blood-splattered dolls are found dangling from a tree, Jane knows that her instincts are dead on. And when she learns of Will Yablonski and Claire Ward, students whose tragic pasts bear a shocking resemblance to Teddy’s, it becomes chillingly clear that a circling predator has more than one victim in mind.

Joining forces with her trusted partner, medical examiner Maura Isles, Jane is determined to keep these orphans safe from harm. But an unspeakable secret dooms the children’s fate - unless Jane and Maura can finally put an end to an obsessed killer’s twisted quest.

Unengaging and poor character development

None of Gerritson's stories are high brow literature, but this showed such a lack of research into teens' psychology, psychologists in general, and human emotion it became annoying.

Any additional comments?

This was a great listen. This was the first book I have listened to by this author and would like to get another. I love the show so was not to fond of the accents that were portrayed. Overall, I would recommend this book.

Would you listen to Last to Die again? Why?

yes. to see if there were clues i missed as to the ending

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

vengeance and money are powerful motivators

Any additional comments?

the rizzoli and isles series gets better and better with each subsequent book as far as keeping me guessing to the very end. i just never figure it out before tess gerritsen wants it revealed. i thank her for this.

Another great read!

Would you listen to Last to Die again? Why?

I've been a Tess Gerritsen fan for a long time and have followed Rizzoli and Isles from the beginning. I can read or listen over and over.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Last to Die?

Finding out who the "who done it?" was. I was surprised again, but it shows, as in human nature, the parental bond is solid, good or bad.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes, I would have liked to listen the the book in one setting, but listening while driving to and from work, calms the road rage.

Good story!

This was my first listen of a Rizzoli & Isles novel. Truly suspenseful and enjoyable. I listened in my car and it made the time fly by.

Disapointing

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I love Tess Gerritsen's series but this one was just not believable - and boring - and relied too much on earlier book (which I had read, but others may not have).

Was Last to Die worth the listening time?

Sad to say, not really. And I love her books!! I guess I would recommend buying it, but not having high expectations.

Tess Gerritsen writes another Masterpiece!!!

The book is excellent, and the narration is just as good. Tanya Eby narrates in such a way that you would think that there was more than one person narrating the story. This book is a must read, even to be re-read again and again. I highly recommend this book!

Another winning Rizzoli & Isles tale! LOVED it!

In the newest installment of the Rizzoli & Isles tales, Dr. Maura Isles is visiting "Rat", or Julian, her ward, at Evensong...where he's attending boarding school. She's supposed to be on vacation...but as always seems to happen, bodies just keep piling up around. It's strange enough that all the kids in this school seem to have been victims of some sort of major tradgedies in their lives, now bodies are literally dropping off the building? And to top it off, the last case she'd worked on before heading out on vacation, that of young Teddy Clock, has similarities to several of these kids up here at Evensong...Maura has to call her close friend and Police Detective Jane Rizzoli & fill her in.

Jane thinks taking Teddy to Evensong, where security is tight, and being up in the remote wilderness, will keep him safe. She has NO idea she is taking him into the nest of it...but she does know that there is SOMETHING about this case. Too many suspicious things ~ and too many coincidences can only add up to this all being connected. But WHO is responsible?

Fans of the Rizzoli & Isles books will be thrilled ~ we get to visit with Jane's sometimes funny, sometimes all too real family and catch up with her Mom & Corsack, & her Dad and brother. We get updated on Maura and Daniel Brophy, and while I had high hopes for more between her & Anthony Sansone in this book, we DO get some interaction and some tidbits...and something we're left to think about.

I LOVE this series! NEVER a dissapointment, every case is great...and the family dynamics & real life BS Ms. Gerritsen throws in just makes me love the series that much more.

Tany Eby truly brings these characters to life in audio...you can hear the Boston in the voices, the weariness in Jane's Mom's at times, the excitement in Julian's...I just love her narration! This series is a MUST buy in Audio for me!

LOVED this book ~ and am depressed that I'll have to wait so long for the next one already, lol.
