Publisher's summary

Mary DiNunzio is a trademark Lisa Scottoline heroine - she's strong, she's smart, and she's got plenty of attitude. In recent years, she's become a big-time business-getter at Rosato & Associates, but the last person she expects to walk into her office one morning - in mile-high stilettos - is super sexy Trish Gambone, her high school rival. Back then, while Mary was becoming the straight-A president of the Latin Club and Most Likely to Achieve Sainthood, Trish was the head Mean Girl, who flunked religion and excelled at smoking in the bathroom.

As it turns out, however, Trish's life has taken a horrifying turn. She's terrified of her live-in boyfriend, who's an abusive, gun-toting drug dealer for the South Philly mob. There's only one problem - Mary remembers the guy from high school too. Unbeknownst to Trish, Mary had a major crush on him.

Then Trish vanishes, a dead body turns up in an alley, and Mary is plunged into a nightmare, one that threatens her job, her family, and even her life. She goes on a one-woman crusade to unmask the killer, and on the way, finds new love in a very unexpected place.

But before the novel's shocking surprise ending, Mary is forced to confront some very uncomfortable truths about her own past, and the profound effects of lifelong love - and hate.

Narrator not right for this book

The narrator’s voice was too gravelly and sounded too old for the main character. The story line was predictable and there was little intrigue.

Great!...mostly

I loved listening to this book! As a born and raised Jersey girl, this was like going home again. My only issue were the slight issues with the author being consistent in the story. It's hard to remember the details, but if you listen you'll see what I mean. It does not take away from the story or the narrator at all. Wonderful!

Good Story BUT....

I enjoyed this book even if some of the parts were a bit of a stretch. The one thing that I did not not enjoy was the narrator. I know they were trying to give the appropriate accent to go with the story, but they ended up sounding like they smoked 2+ packs a day. It was distracting the entire book to have the lead female character in her 30s sound so horrible. I would not get anything this person narrates again.

entertaining

This book had a great story line and a couple of unexpected twists. I thought the first 5 minutes were so boring that I almost stopped listening, but once the main plot started it was much more entertaining. Just a warning though...the narrator overacts the entire time. If the narrator tends to make or break the story for you, you might not want to buy this book.

L. S. never disappoints!

Thank you, Lisa Scottoline. Not only are her books interesting, suspenseful, and fun but she makes me laugh out loud! What a great sense of humor! Cochranville, PA loves her books.

I love this book

and I love the dramatic skill of the narrator. She does a marvelous job of delineating the characters and bringing scottoline's characters to life. Her skill with dialects is unmatched.

Glad the girls are back

I've read or listened to all of Lisa Scottoline's work and I'd stick this one someplace in the middle. She's great at developing characters and coming up with fun story lines, I just thought this one wasn't quite as exciting as her other ones have been. I'm glad that the law firm girls are back though!

May be my favorite thus far!

I love the characters and the way you allow them to grow and change while still remaining very much themselves.

A welcome return to Rosato and Associates

I have enjoyed all of Lisa Scottoline's books but I have to admit my favorite characters are those from the Rosato and Associates so it was great to hear from them again. I am the opposite of the other reviewer - I love Barbara Rosenblat as a reader because I enjoy the theatrical performances (each to their own!) It is great to hear all the different characters in the voices I have become accustomed to. I am so intrigued by all of Lisa Scottoline's books that I tend to read or listen to them without breaks and then I'm sad when they are over. She has a great blend of characters, suspense and humor that I greatly enjoy. "Lady Killer" was no exception. Now I have to wait another year for the next book and hopefully another return to the law firm I have grown to love.
