Publisher's summary

David Baldacci brings back Sean King and Michelle Maxwell - former Secret Service agents turned private investigators, featured in the hit TNT TV series King & Maxwell - in their most surprising, personal, and dangerous case ever....

It seems at first like a simple, tragic story. Tyler Wingo, a teenage boy, learns the awful news that his father, a soldier, was killed in action in Afghanistan. Then the extraordinary happens: Tyler receives a communication from his father...after his supposed death.

Tyler hires Sean and Michelle to solve the mystery surrounding his father. But their investigation quickly leads to deeper, more troubling questions. Could Tyler's father really still be alive? What was his true mission? Could Tyler be the next target?

Sean and Michelle soon realize that they've stumbled on to something bigger and more treacherous than anyone could have imagined. And as their hunt for the truth leads them relentlessly to the highest levels of power and to uncovering the most clandestine of secrets, Sean and Michelle are determined to help and protect Tyler - though they may pay for it with their lives.

Always listening. English, psychology. Love all the thrillers and mysteries.

The story was convoluted . Enjoyed all your the same. The female voices were poor. Wouldn't want that narrator again. The male was fine.

I have listened to them all...so far

Another good read by Baldacci.
This was not the best, mainly because of a weak storyline. If I wanted to kill someone, no matter who they were, I would not go through all the trouble that Grant did to kill one man. Stealing over a billion dollars, killing numerous people, paying off dozens of others, renting a satellite, to take over the computer system of one car. It reminded me of a Mike Myers movie.

One writing error. The president and Maxwell were being overcome by Carbon Dioxide, not Monoxide.

AWESOME

Great story. So glad Edgar is in it, as he is the new TV show. Having read the books and seen the show who ever cast the show did a great job. Readers always create their own vision of the characters and these 3 certainly fit the bill. I think it helps the book flow. I love Michelles cluttered truck!

The satellite info was interesting. Believable storyline and the narrator was great.

Excellent Installment

If you like the series, you will like this book. Unfortunately, it appears to be the last one in the series. Let’s start a write in campaign to get the author to start it up again....

One of the best

Where does King and Maxwell rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This was one of the best in the King & Maxwell series. The plot was great, kept you guessing the outcome, and it showed development of King & Maxwell's relationship. Looking forward to the next one.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Both King & Maxwell--love to see the development of the characters and their relationship with each other.

What does Ron McLarty and Orlagh Cassidy bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the way the narrators bring the characters alive. You don't get the inflection of tone and emotion when you just read the story.

Improved Narration

What did you love best about King and Maxwell?

It seems like the narrators took earlier feedback to heart. I gave a rotten review on the last book. Ron narrates fine, I love his voice and can listen to him forever. I did not like Orlagh's over acting in her narration and used a southern accent that was very annoying. The over acting female roles vs the easy narration of the male roles clashed and were annoying.

With this book, Orlagh toned down the broadway and got rid of the accent and Ron stepped up with more charactor in his narration.

I liked previous books with Scott Brick, but honestly my favorite was the one Ron McLarty did by himself. But the last book with the duo of Ron and Orlagh was very good.
