Publisher's Summary

L.A. shoe designer Maddie Springer hasn't seen her father since he reportedly ran off to Las Vegas with a showgirl named Lola. So she's shocked when he leaves a desperate plea for help on her answering machine - ending in a loud bang. Gunshot? Car backfire? Never one to leave her curiosity unsatisfied, Maddie straps on her stilettos, and along with her trigger-happy best friend, makes tracks for Sin City in search of her MIA dad.

Maddie hits the jackpot, all right. She finds not only her dad, but also a handful of aging drag queens, an organized crime ring smuggling fake Prada pumps, and one relentless killer. Plus, it seems the LAPD's sexiest cop is doing a little Vegas moonlighting of his own.

In a town where odds are everything, Maddie bets it all on her ability to out-step a vicious murderer. She just hopes her gamble pays off ... before her own luck runs out.

    "Gangsters in Drag in Vegas"

Maddie and her strange troop of wackos take Las Vegas and were she real, Vegas wouldn't ever recover.

Totally overblown madcap writing left me in the dust.

This is it for Maddie and I-I thought she and Ramirez were going to actually have successful sex but Maddie freaked out because she had on old panties and hadn't shaved her legs so...no sex. Totally unrealistic, totally juvenile, I'm totally out of here. Bye Maddie...I'm done.

"Mental forehead smack! CAN'T READ THESE ANYMORE!!"

"Mental forehead smack", "I'm not ashamed to say" that I "soooo" can't read any more of these books!!! It's actually a real shame because these books have so much potential to be fun with a little touch of "who dunnit" but I got to the point when I knew she was going to say "mental forehead smack" and would cringe knowing it was coming. It was incredibly annoying! I'm also curious to know how many times this author used any variation of "to say"... "I'm happy to say", I'm not ashamed to say", "I'm ashamed to say", "I'm embarassed me to say". If it was not at least 50 times in this book, I'd be shocked. And the same goes for the word "soooo". "I am "soooo" not going in there", "Ramirez is going to be "soooo" not happy with me", "this is sooo not working out the way I thought it would".... I think I remember that being a pretty cool saying about 15 years ago and is probably even OK a couple of times in a book but again, it appeared as often as "to say" and "mental forehead smack" and just got to the point of utter annoyance!

I had hoped that book two would have had less of these irritations, because I like the idea of a series of books that I can follow and look forward to buying the next in the series. But with these ones, I could only look forward to them ending. Sorry, just can't buy another.

"Just a little bit of fun"
What did you like best about Killer in High Heels? What did you like least?

It was not really anything to get excited about. But if you've caught up on all of Evanovich, this will hold you over til her new one comes out.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Not sure, it was just not too original

What three words best describe Caroline Shaffer’s performance?

    It was ok

Did Killer in High Heels inspire you to do anything?

    Nope

    "Fun Brain Candy"

Fun to listen to when you want to tune out and let your brain relax and not think about anything serious. A little bit fluffy in content, but amusing nonetheless.

    "Love this series!"

I travel a lot for my car, and sometimes music gets old. Audio books are the perfect solution and once I c I molested the first book, Spying in High Heels, I was hooked! This second installment was great as well. Now on to the third!

"Fun, if you don't mind a little fat shaming humor"

This is the second in a really pretty good madcap, screwball series. The plots are thick enough and there are plenty of red herrings and fine characters.
But there is the fat shaming thing going on. Certainly not constantly, but enough to be off-putting. Also - the shoe obsession, which works better in book two than in book one, still feels a little awkward, not yet intrinsic to the character.

Having said all that, the book is delightfully read and is mostly a lot of fun. I didn't guess whodunnit in either book.

I'll be giving book three a listen.

    "Giving up on this Series..."

I decided to give this series another shot and purchased Killer in High Heels. I like the story's premise; long lost father turns out to be a drag queen. But this story gets a little unbelievable when the action starts heating up and the ending was a bit of a let down. There are better series with more likeable sleuths.

    "Cute"

A who done it story line with a bumbling blonde leading the way. These are pretty cute stories. They don't make me laugh out loud as much as The Stephanie Plum books, but otherwise kind of similar. Easy to listen to and entertaining as audiobooks (my preferred format).
