    "comfort reading"

This series is rapidly becoming my comfort listening series. Likable and funny characters, promised happy ending, and cozy mystery make this series a sure thing. When I don't want to read anything stressful and would like to have a BGM book, this series is perfect.
In this volume the killer is pretty obvious halfway through the book. But the ending part was still gripping and I very much enjoyed it.

    "A little disappointed(spoilers included)"

I have enjoyed the series very much until this book . I do not like that Abby slept with
Duffy, I do not believe that anyone in love would sleep with someone days after a breakup
and I cannot believe Dutch (or any man or woman) would just basically say don't worry about it when told. I also can't believe Dutch did not know or get the phone number(FBI ?)

    "Abby's Wires Get Crossed"
Would you be willing to try another book from Victoria Laurie? Why or why not?

    Most definitely

What does Elizabeth Michaels bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I always like her voice though others complain. She sounds upbeat.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    No

    Any additional comments?

Yes I got angry at Abby's character in this book. She was over the top ( like with the presents at V-day), she was sulky, bratty, and to top matters off she was disloyal to Dutch. I found it interesting that it took Abby & Dutch forever to get physical but it happens in about 2 days in this book. It made me look at Abb's differently but then again we all make mistakes and are subject to acting "human".

    "More Psychic Eye Fun!"
Where does Killer Insight rank among all the audiobooks you???ve listened to so far?

I really like this series because it always makes you laugh out loud! Abby is constantly getting into trouble, even when she is trying to avoid it. For this genre, this is one of my favorite series.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Killer Insight?

The beginning opens up with Abby facing her own death. It was surprising because the book was just beginning, so how could she die already?! Then you realize she is seeing it with her psychic eye. She knows what lies ahead, but not sure what choice to make to change her path.

Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Michaels???s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I'm not sure if I recall if I have listened to her before or not.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Uh oh- this could be the death of me.

I like this series. It's lighthearted murder if there is such a thing. I like the narrator.

The premise of the story was so unbelievable. The narrator read the story as if it were about a picnic in the park instead of a multiple murder. I always make myself finish a book just to see if it all comes together in the end, but unfortunately this one did not.

"Better enjoyed in a paper format."
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

If I recommended this book, or this series, I would not recommend the audio. Although the story is well crafted and fairly interesting, it just doesn't translate into the spoken word. The reader's monotone voice and pacing don't lend any reality to the performance. I found myself frequently thinking "nobody would use that phrase" or "noone would ever sound like that under the circumstances." It was annoying because the performance actually got in the way of the story. I've read some of this series and it was much more enjoyable to read silently.

Who was your favorite character and why?

None stood out particularly. I like Dutch from previous stories, so although he's not much of a presence in this book, I still like him. Abby is never quite believable to me.

What didn’t you like about Elizabeth Michaels’s performance?

I didn't like anything about it. She brought no life to the story, her pacing was static and boring, and her voice was very monotone. There was never any doubt she was 'reading" and not even attempting to "act" the various parts. I guess I've been spoiled by so many wonderful readers who bring each character to life. I will definately avoid any books read by her in the future.

Was Killer Insight worth the listening time?

    no

    Any additional comments?

This author crafted a clever mystery with lots of action and characters, but the characters never became "real". They didn't talk like real people and certainly didn't act believably. Why was Abby always able to convince the Sheriff that she should allow herself to be put into danger against his better judgement? And why did the doctor begin to act like a criminal even though he was guilty of nothing? The idea of a psychic is interesting, but it needs more fleshing out, in my opinion. But for a light read, it's fine.

"Strained eyes from rolling them too much"

The plot line is fairly interesting, and it's well narrated. On the other hand, the dialog is corny and fake sounding, and the author makes repeated use of imagery that makes no sense. For example, when the psychic lead character senses that something sounds wrong, her 'left side feels thick and heavy'. But when a statement sounds true, her 'right side feels light and airy'. Now, I'm not psychic, but I do have both a left and right side, and I can't grasp the what the author seems to be shooting for.

I'm also not real keen on how the narrator always lowers her voice to indicate a male is speaking. Its like a male narrator going into a Monty Python falsetto every time a female speaks.

All in all, a completely forgettable, but mostly harmless book.

    "Narrator problem"
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Although I really like these psychic eye stories, the narrator has an annoying prnounciation problem. She frequestly ends past tense verbs with a t instead of a d pronoucing words like want-ed as want-it and boot-ed as boot-it.

She also leaves the g off of participles pronoucing making as makin .

These errors occur in groups making me assume that it may happen when she gets tired.

I think professional narrators should not make this kind of mistake.
