Publisher's summary

For fans of Robert Parker's smart but tough-as-nails heroes, screenwriter Stephen Carpenter introduces a new character to the mystery genre, Jack Rhodes. Jack is an author and former boxer who was on his way to literary success when his life was blown apart by the horrific suicide of his fiancee.

Devastated, Jack went on a fifteen-month alcoholic spiral into near oblivion before eventually working past his demons to become a best-selling crime novelist. But just as Jack is finishing his fourth book about a vicious serial killer, the LAPD interrupts his quiet routine with news of what appears to be a copycat murder from his first book. There's just one problem - the murder took place before Jack's book was published.

Jack begins to investigate, using techniques he learned through his meticulous research with police and FBI investigators. To his horror, Jack soon discovers that each of the murders he imagined are real...down to the most harrowing details. And Jack is Suspect Number One...

Jack winds up on the run, a fugitive haunted by his past and hunted by the very cops and FBI agents he has befriended. Jack must use every resource he has to prevent the murder of a woman he knows will be next in his series of novels. He must piece together shattered memories from the fragments he recalls during his drunken fifteen-month blackout.

NOT TOO GOOD.

Poorest narration I have ever listened to. It started out not horrible but before halfway through it became strictly monotone with no inflection. I will not even be finishing it.

Killer- A book of many twists

What would have made Killer better?

I think the transition from the past to the present could have been smoother. Too many characters to keep in your mind and difficult to follow for me. The story has some very unexpected twists, but you must concentrate on where in time you are.

What do you think your next listen will be?

A grey man series

What three words best describe Noah Michael Levine’s performance?

Noah tries very hard to create the different voices of the many characters. A very difficult job and I think he does the best possible.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

I think in one word disappointment. The book was too hard for me to follow.

Want to kill myself for buying it!

This book was so incredibly predictable that before the end of the first chapter I had figured out the "mystery". As a lover of psychological thrillers this one was textbook. I did not have the heart to finish and as with a book of the same writing style, I skipped to the end and pushed the stop button ASAP.

If you like filth, you'll love this book

What would have made Killer better?

Good writing doesn't require every filthy word in the vocabulary, and that's what ruined an otherwise awesome plot.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

For as long as I listened to it, yes, but I couldn't tolerate the language.

Have you listened to any of Noah Michael Levine’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, and I won't, since they will probably follow the same guidelines.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

It made me angry that an author couldn't write a book at least on the margin of decency.

Any additional comments?

No.
