Publisher's summary

The shocking techno-thriller that cements Daniel Suarez's status as the heir to Michael Crichton and Tom Clancy - a terrifying, breathtaking, and all-too-plausible vision of the world's near future.

Unmanned weaponized drones already exist: they're widely used by America in our war efforts in the Middle East. In Kill Decision, best-selling author Daniel Suarez takes that fact and the real science behind it one step further, with frightening results.

Linda McKinney is a myrmecologist, a scientist who studies the social structure of ants. Her academic career has left her entirely unprepared for the day her sophisticated research is conscripted by unknown forces to help run an unmanned - and thanks to her research, automated - drone army. Odin is the secretive Special Ops soldier with a unique insight into the faceless enemy who has begun to attack the American homeland with drones programmed to seek, identify, and execute targets without human intervention.

Together, McKinney and Odin must slow this advance long enough for the world to recognize its destructive power, because for thousands of years the "kill decision" during battle has remained in the hands of humans - and off-loading that responsibility to machines will bring unintended, possibly irreversible, consequences.

But as forces even McKinney and Odin don't understand begin to gather, and death rains down from above, it may already be too late to save humankind from destruction at the hands of our own technology.

Which scene was your favorite?

The point where Oden and the Professort were attemting to run the bba_Mærsk ashore when all the drones on the ship could easily of killed them if it wasn't for the pheremone spray.

An Arguement against Drones

This is a high adrenalin book which looks at some of the ethical issues surounding drones and automated operations of drones ina combat environment. As a story it has a fast paced adventure that is sometimes a little unbelievable. But the underlying question for the use of autonimous combat drones remains.

Another amazing read!

I started following Daniel Suarez with Daemon and Freedom TM, and when I saw that this was another of his, I had to try it. Having served in the military during the shift to unarmed drones, I know some of the fears and some of the successes that drones give us. Suarez does a great job of expanding on them here. My only complaint is that some of the military actions and weaponry is very exaggerrated (to the point of being illogical from a tactical standpoint) and would not be done by serious operators. On the other hand, they build a great story. Suarez brought it again with this great read, and i hope to see more come from him soon!

Interesting and fun read

I really enjoyed listening to this narrator. A lot of enthusiasm, quick and alert to read so
well. I felt that he was having a good time reading this book. He made me smile a few times, which didn't take away from the story at all.
So much truth and completely believable. It could actually be right around the corner for us. If not already happening. Just look at the news. Some bits are from a good imagination, but the book held my attention from beginning to end. I agree it is a lot like Michael Crichton, but more realistic.
A very nice break from the last 5 or 6 that I purchased and just couldn't like at all.

Daniel Suarez is getting even better...

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

If you enjoyed the 'Daemon' series by Suarez, you are sure to like this story as well. Daniel has such a good grasp on modern technology - from chemistry to electronics - it makes his stories impressively real. If you are a tech junkie, and like his style, you will love the book. Jeff Gurner as the narrator was 10/10 - amazing. Wish he did more in this genre. A must-listen.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Great storyline, with very believable tech-angles

Exciting, Timely & Important

What was one of the most memorable moments of Kill Decision?

So many. The horde of drones circling the freighter.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I don't, but "yes".

Any additional comments?

Suarez does it again. So timely that the Washington Post ran a column last week on autonomous drones. A memorable and exciting story. Not quite as good as his first 2 books, but a fine read.

Good, fun summer read

Just a good, summer read. Good characters, great super-hero Special Forces Operator and team, and exciting spy-tech with enough political and societal consequences thrown in to keep it from being pure action.

Started off ok...then it went silly

What about Jeff Gurner’s performance did you like?

He's great...no complaints

Any additional comments?

I liked Daemon and Freedom. This started off good but went into silliness. By the end I only listened because I didn't have anything else to listen to. I like believable stories. Though I have to admit Freedom became a bit unbelievable also. This more so...

Disappointing

After really enjoying Daemon and Freedom, this book was quite a disappointing effort by Suarez. The concept of Daemon was great and it was backed by a fun and exciting plot. Kill Decision on the other hand has an interesting premise with almost no plot and boring characters as well. I really hope Suarez pulls together another book as I think he has potential but this was not it.
