Publisher's summary

The president's son and daughter are abducted, and Detective Alex Cross is one of the first on the scene. But someone very high-up is using the FBI, Secret Service, and CIA to keep him off the case and in the dark.

A deadly contagion in the water supply cripples half of the capital, and Alex discovers that someone may be about to unleash the most devastating attack the United States has ever experienced.

As his window for solving both crimes narrows, Alex makes a desperate decision that goes against everything he believes - one that may alter the fate of the entire country.

Kill Alex Cross is faster, more exciting, and more tightly wound than any Alex Cross thriller James Patterson has ever written!

Wait for "almost free" before buying

Definitely not one of his best ones...mediocre at best. Predictable, bad plot and 2 stories going on with 1 not coming to a conclusion. It tries to be fast paced and have action, but it falls terribly flat. I can honestly say this is probably one of the worst ones I have read by Patterson. And "Kill Alex Cross" really has nothing to do with the story. It's like slap a shabby title on an even shabbier manuscript and call it a day. I can withstand the mundane, but this was just way below what I expected from Patterson...and Alex Cross!

This book may just kill Alex Cross

I kept wondering if I was listening to an abridged version because the story was incredibly choppy. No story line (and there are several) was fully developed. I love the Alex Cross series, but this one reads like a first draft. Skip Kill Alex Cross; it doesn't advance the character at all.

Loved all books in this Series, Until Now !

I have loved every book in the James Patterson (Alex Cross) Series. I was very excited when this new book finally came out. To my disappointment it was not what I had expected. The excitment and mystery were left out of this book. I did listen to the whole book in the hopes it would get better but it just did not have the usual cant put down effect that all the other books have. Dont get me wrong, I love James Patterson and he is an amazing Author, it is just my opinion this book was the worst in the series. I also know how hard it must be to continue on with a series for so long. I am sure there is only so much you can write about. I feel this book could have been better.

Meh...

Just ok. To me the story was lacking. I also didn't care for the performance aspects and sound effects either. Good narration would have been just fine.

Oh Mr Patterson - Get Back to your Best Stuff

Mr Patterson - too many helpers, co authors, too many cooks in the kitchen. You are losing your ... yes your (Mr Patterson) key ingredients and style. Alex Cross is so powerful and he too is being diluted too much.
Please get back to basics stop the assembly line "James Patterson and XXXXXXXXX"

It was Okay

I usually love the narration of these books, but this time Andrew Braugher seemed to have a cold and I felt he was rushing to get the words in. Zach Grenier did a marvelous job though especially with the different nationalities that were portrayed in this book. The book didn't seem to be long enough and I don't believe we received the usual psychological make-up of the individuals. The whole book seemed to be rushed to me.

I do like Mr Braugher as the voice of Alex Cross and perhaps if he had been feeling better, my experience would have been a better one. There is quite a bit of action as in all Alex Cross books, but I felt even that was down played a bit. This book definitely is produced with a lot of music and side effects, but even those didn't seem to be as good as past books.

I can only give this 3.5 out of 5 stars as I have read and listened to much better books by James Patterson. This is not one that I would rush out and buy at full price like I have in the past.

Short Unabridged

As a huge JP fan, I didn't enjoy this one as much as the others in the Alex Cross series. The plot and narration were good but it had an abridged feel to it. Too short.

Alex Cross Returns

I have to confess that I am an Alex Cross groupie and I love reading about his life, family and his entire life. This book was WAY too short on details and I was a little disappointed. It was interesting that there were 2 different story lines but I think both of them could have been explored in a little more detailed. This might have been an opportunity to explore the mindset and dedication of the radical muslims and help the American public get a better understanding of what drives fanatics. I think the title is decieving, I kept waiting for some aggressive move on Alex. Maybe James Patterson got sick of people trying to kill Alex. Not one of "I just can't wait to see what happens next" books but still good entertainment.

Riveting/Boring all at once

Would you try another book from James Patterson and/or Andre Braugher and Zach Grenier ?

Yes I would. James Pattersons books are always brisk and the Alex Cross character is like family. Andre Braugher is especially nice; and Mr. Grenier is has so much breadth of character(s). This is the first audio book that I have listened to that had sound affects. I'm not sure about that. Seems like the writing and the narration ought to create the mood without background noise. In general, I found that distracting.

I want the old Alex Cross back

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I keep hoping the Alex Cross of Along Came a Spider, Hide and Seek, and Cat and Mouse will someday return. If the plot could have been as unpredictable as those, this would have been a much better story.

What was most disappointing about James Patterson’s story?

Very predictable, no imagination

What does Andre Braugher and Zach Grenier bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The readers were very good and brought life to the different characters. This was the one highlight of the book.

What character would you cut from Kill Alex Cross?

Hallah (spelling?)

Any additional comments?

It's unfortunate that an author as talented as James Patterson appears to have fallen into the trap of having to pump out books just to have a sale. It takes away the magic of his excellent story telling in his much earlier books.
