Life's good when I am listening to a great book.
This novel held my interest but I did keep finding myself rolling my eyes as the story was "over the top" and high drama. The story did draw me in right away but soon became an OMG experience. In order not to provide a spoiler, I have to be careful what I write. I felt frustrated that the husband seemed to have no concern for the pain that he caused his wife of many years. If he's that much of a schmuck; why did she marry him and why did she want him back? I don't know. Listening to this book is like watching a Lifetime movie. It's good for a sick day or a beach read if you're ready to suspend reality and just ride the drama.
I liked the high intensity drama towards the end, it really gripped me and made me want to keep listening, so much so that I sat stationary in my car for the final 20 mins! I also enjoyed the narrators accent, especially when reading Natty's first person parts.
I disliked the ending - no spoilers here! I felt that too much was left unsaid with a lot of loose ends. I had just started to really get into it and suddenly it was all over!!
I would have liked to have heard more information about Eve, she seems to have such a secretive life full of lies that finding out more about how she ended up there would have been interesting.
Yes, I didn't particularly enjoy the ending. I felt that too much was left unsaid so would be interested in a sequal.
It took me a little while to get into this story. I listened to chunks of about 45 mine -1 hour at a time whilst commuting and to start with it seemed a bit like any other "midlife crisis" story and didn't really grip me but once I was just over half way through it started to get interesting.
The book did meet my expectations and held my attention to the very end. A definite must read and good narration.
The story kept you captivated the whole way, until the end.... Hated the ending! So much more could have been added!
I wasn't expecting to like this book as much as I did. The narrator was great, and the plot held my attention right up until the very end. I have this awful habit of not finishing my audiobooks about a half-hour from the end, because I know exactly how they're written and what happens, and usually by that point I'm bored. But I listened to this one right up until the very last second -- and oddly enough, the ending was a bit stunted and abrupt. Yet still good! I recommend it... terrific mystery and suspenseful drama.
Rarely do I stop reading a book, but I had to turn this off. It was not only predictable, but it there was no build up...it just jumped right into the crazy. Now sometimes that works, but this was just too much without knowing the characters or feeling like you want to be a part of the world.
I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
Keep Your Friends Close is a well written and interesting novel about a complex marriage. The narrator is outstanding.
There are lots of twist and turns in this one.
Listen to about four audio books a months. Never without one.
Just finished it. Psychological thriller. I'm getting hooked on this genre. Loved it. Where has this book been? Sure there are some "really's?" - but who cares? This was a book that I couldn't put down and listened to way into the night. I love a crazy psychopath villain and this book has one. A lot of people didn't like the ending. I loved the ending - perfect.
Narrator is British and does an excellent job. Recommend it to anyone who likes this genre.
loved it! surprising to the end! It relaxed me on my drive home every night. It was a great way to unwind before coming home. It was not cliche in the story plot it had surprising twists and turns and kept my interest to the end.
