Publisher's summary

An ordinary snapshot causes a mother’s world to unravel in an instant. After picking up her two young children from school, Grace Lawson looks through a newly developed set of photographs. She finds an odd one in the pack: A mysterious picture from perhaps twenty years ago, showing four strangers she can’t identify. But there is one face she recognizes—that of her husband, from before she knew him.

When her husband sees the photo that night, he leaves their home and drives off without explanation. She doesn’t know where he’s going, or why he’s leaving. Or if he’s ever coming back. Nor does she realize how dangerous the search for him will be. Because there are others interested in both her husband’s past and that photo, including Eric Wu: A fierce, silent killer who will not be stopped from finding his quarry, no matter who or what stands in his way.

Her world turned upside down, filled with doubts about her herself and marriage, Grace must confront the dark corners of her own tragic past as she struggles to learn the truth, find her husband, and save her family.

Single Most Annoying Reader EVER!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

As always, Harlan delivers with a great book.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

As aways it kept you wondering, and wanting to hear more

How could the performance have been better?

The male reader was great. The woman doing the female part, may be the single-most annoying reader I have ever heard in a book. Nasal... annoying... bizarre inflections that distracted so bad, I almost had to turn it off. She should be forced to return the money, and then be sent to a third world country, for torture.... since she tortured me.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

See above comments on the female reader

Any additional comments?

Please, please, please NEVER USE THAT FEMALE READER FOR ANYTHING!!!

The narrative voice is horrible. Usually live your books made it hard to get into the story

great story not-so-great narrator

I've had this book for over a month but it's taking me several times to start listening to it I love the offer this is probably my 20th book of his but the narrator the female narrator that is did not read her sentences correct and her tone of voice was horrible I could barely focus on the story. luckily the male narrator would come on every chapter or so to give me a break from her voice I hope she does not marry any more of his books. but the storyline itself was amazing as usual lots of twists lots of thinking great author

Female narrator is robotic and tedious, but ....

..If you speed up the narration it helps 100%. I chose 1.5 speed and that did the job.

Not my favorite

I've been a Harlan Coben fan for years, but this book was a disappointment. The story was good and the male narrator did a great job, but after listening to only the first few minutes of the female narrator I knew it was going to be tough to get through this book. She had a strange cadence that was so annoying and she almost made it sound as though she was angry or scolding. She also ended most of her sentences with a two-syllable word, even if it was a one-syllable word.... like la-ake, de-esk, ca-ar. The funny thing is that when she was speaking as a character she did it well. How did this performance ever make it to production? I stayed with the book until the end because I was on a long road trip, but I should have checked the reviews before ordering!

Lots of twists!

This book would have been great if Luke Daniels had done all of the narration. The story was so good and kept me on the edge of my seat.

Disappointing

Sorry to say that I have to agree with most of the other reviews regarding the narrator on this book. It was just so annoying how she ended every sentence like a question. This was my book club's selection for last month and I normally enjoy Harlan Coben's books, but I had to struggle to finish this one. Wish I had read it instead.

Great story as always!!!

Quite possibly the worst female narrator that I’ve ever listened to. Her cadence was so distracting that it was almost unlistenable.

The narration. Holy ouch my ears

The narration was slow, drawn out, and monotone. It was tough to get through. Hopefully she has improved on future works

Just Shoot Me

Ordinarily, I thoroughly enjoy Harlan Coben's books, but listening to this is pure torture. Angela Dawe's narration is just as bad as other reviewers have said (God, I wish I'd read those reviews instead of buying this book blind!). Here's the problem: Ms. Dawe's feels compelled to end almost every declarative sentence with a two-syllable lift-drop in her inflection . . . even when the sentence ends in a monosyllabic word. Thus, "Jack" becomes "Jaa-ack" and "home" becomes "hoo-ome." It is absolutely maddening. (Strangely, Ms. Dawe's speaks normally when she is reading quotations.) I'm curious to know how the book turns out -- the portions read by Luke Daniels are intriguing -- but I just don't know if I can stand to continue.
