Publisher's summary

An ordinary snapshot causes a mother’s world to unravel in an instant. After picking up her two young children from school, Grace Lawson looks through a newly developed set of photographs. She finds an odd one in the pack: A mysterious picture from perhaps twenty years ago, showing four strangers she can’t identify. But there is one face she recognizes—that of her husband, from before she knew him.

When her husband sees the photo that night, he leaves their home and drives off without explanation. She doesn’t know where he’s going, or why he’s leaving. Or if he’s ever coming back. Nor does she realize how dangerous the search for him will be. Because there are others interested in both her husband’s past and that photo, including Eric Wu: A fierce, silent killer who will not be stopped from finding his quarry, no matter who or what stands in his way.

Her world turned upside down, filled with doubts about her herself and marriage, Grace must confront the dark corners of her own tragic past as she struggles to learn the truth, find her husband, and save her family.

Female narrator irritating

The female narrator’s voice was annoying and distracting. Will avoid any stories narrated by this person. Story was good overall.

I want my money back!!!

I could not listen to this book because the female narrator was horrible!! it is probably a good book like most Harlan Coben books; but I will never know because I couldn't stand to listen to the narrator ... I tried, but it was so bad that I gave up. Is this the ONLY audio version? Is there a version with another narrator? What a waste of money.

Great read

Really enjoyed this book. Did not enjoy the female narrator. Snarky sounding. even the ending felt like she wanted to say more.

Great story, so-so performance.

Whenever I’m in the mood for a good dose of self-righteous cynicism I look to Harlan Coben. This is an interesting and engaging story, and probably would’ve been a better read. Angela Dawe may well be a very nice person, and her voice characterizations fairly good but… the actual narration was like nails on a chalkboard.

Worst Narrator Ever

I was looking forward to another Harlem Coben novel, and thoroughly enjoyed chapter 1 with Luke Daniels’ reading. Then came chapter 2 and I had to turn it off! Angela Dawes’ voice has a grating quality that I simply cannot listen to. In addition, she has an annoying habit of “up talking” at the end of each sentence, which changes the rhythm and cadence of the narration.
Because half of the narration is going to irritate me, I will not be able to listen to the rest of the novel.

Narrator

Angela Dawe’s narration made this book a most painful experience. I really should have returned this book.

This whole audiobook is extremely tainted by poor-

By poor narration. The other reviewers are right. The female narrator is so, so, so incredibly bad that I had to jack the speed up to 1.5 to make her sound like a normal human. The Shatner pauses and strange emphasis just ruined everything. It's like a computer reading text and not knowing proper human cadence. Ugh.

If you can get passed that, it's still not Coben's best work. I enjoy all his stuff, so I still enjoyed it, but it's on the bottom half of his books I've read. It wasn't as tightly written and woven as his other books.

Female narrator too stiff

The story is classic Coben-good. The female narrator sounds like an automaton—her delivery is way too stiff.
