Publisher's summary

An ordinary snapshot causes a mother’s world to unravel in an instant. After picking up her two young children from school, Grace Lawson looks through a newly developed set of photographs. She finds an odd one in the pack: A mysterious picture from perhaps twenty years ago, showing four strangers she can’t identify. But there is one face she recognizes—that of her husband, from before she knew him.

When her husband sees the photo that night, he leaves their home and drives off without explanation. She doesn’t know where he’s going, or why he’s leaving. Or if he’s ever coming back. Nor does she realize how dangerous the search for him will be. Because there are others interested in both her husband’s past and that photo, including Eric Wu: A fierce, silent killer who will not be stopped from finding his quarry, no matter who or what stands in his way.

Her world turned upside down, filled with doubts about her herself and marriage, Grace must confront the dark corners of her own tragic past as she struggles to learn the truth, find her husband, and save her family.

Angela Dawe ruins this book

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No - Angela Dawe has the most annoying cadence of anyone I have listened to. Her habit of adding an extra syllable to the last word in any sentence make paying attention to the story almost impossible.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Angela Dawe and Luke Daniels ?

Anyone in for Angela Dawe including Luke Daniels.

Was Just One Look worth the listening time?

Barely

Any additional comments?

I will probably ask for a credit and never again listen to any book narrated by Angela Dase

Great story, I think...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The narrator! I tried so hard to get through this book, and finally just had to let it go. I'll buy the book and read it. The narration was so awful, I wanted to pull my hair out.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

For as long as I could listen, yes - the story was great.

Would you be willing to try another one of Angela Dawe and Luke Daniels ’s performances?

Definitely no for Angela. She uses the exact same tone and inflection at the end of every single sentence, making everything sound exactly the same. NO one talks, or even reads like that. It was so boring, and became so annoying that I couldn't listen to the story. When she was using other character's voices, she was great - otherwise, it was like nails on a chalkboard. :(

Luke's portion was great. Kept hoping for the next chapter to be him.

Could you see Just One Look being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

From what I heard, yes!

Any additional comments?

Harlan, would you ever consider narrating your own books? Love your stories, and spend so much time in my car that Audio Books are the only chance I have to 'read'. Would love to keep 'reading' them, but please be more selective with your narrators.

Why Did I Buy This Without Reading Reviews

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I feel bad. This is the first book I've listened to that I can't finish. The narrators voice is grating.

If you’ve listened to books by Harlan Coben before, how does this one compare?

Other Coben books were great.

What didn’t you like about Angela Dawe and Luke Daniels ’s performance?

Angela Dawes sounds like a robot. Her voice is so irritating that I can't finish the book.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Yes

Can't listen to this.

I always enjoy Harlan Coben, but this is one I will have to read. I don't like to be negative, but neither narrator "worked" for me. The female came across to me as hostile, sneering, not someone I would want to spend time with. The male narrator was ok, but just did not draw me into the story. I am sure that there are books out there that will be a perfect fit for these narrators, just not this one.

Great book- horrible narrator

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The story was great- just as good as any other books by this author. The narrator sucked! Her speech patterns were distracting, she drew out vowels way too long. I was irritated throughout the whole book but the story kept me listening. Worst part was the sample was read by a different narrator, he reads very small parts throughout the whole book.

What did you like best about this story?

Story line. The ending was a good surprise. Don't want to be a spoiler.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

It felt like she was trying to draw it out too long. The funny thing was when she was reading dialog it picked up.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

Just can't listen anymore to that voice!

Would you try another book from Harlan Coben and/or Angela Dawe and Luke Daniels ?

NO

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

I don't know

How could the performance have been better?

A different reader

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I don't know

Any additional comments?

I have LOVED LOVED LOVED every one of Harlan's books that I've read or listened to - I have no idea if I like this one because I can't stand to listen to that voice anymore. I even set the speed to 1.5 just to see if that helped - it helped a little but it's too painful to finish the book - maybe I'll read it instead.

Another good suspense thriller from Harlan Coben. Bad female narrator

This is this is the fifth Harlan Coben and it did not disappoint me. I love his standalone books. The only thing I didn’t like was the female narrator. I don’t recommend her for any narration-she almost ruins the book. The story is original and had me hooked. If you can get past the narrator I highly recommend this book.

narrator is awkward sounding.

I loved the story, but the narration is offputting. I had to go back and replay bits because I was distracted by the lady's voice.

Read this one... don’t suffer through that voice!

I saw the other reviews too late and struggled through Angela Dawe’s terrible performance. Like others have said, I had to take it in small segments despite this being a good book. I generally really like Harlan Coben and I think if I can look at the story objectively it was probably one of the better HC stories.
