"J D Robb and Susan Ericksen"

Every now and then I read a comment on the "In Death" series where the reviewer has a negative comment on Susan Ericksen's narration. This baffles me. Ms. Ericksen IS Eve, Roarke, Peabody, etc. I would NEVER want another narrator for this series.
I enjoy Nora Roberts/J D Robb's writing and I love Ms. Ericksen's narration. Please, don't listen to the negative comments. Listen to one of the books and make the decision yourself. I don't think you will regret it.

    "Wonderful, as usual"

I can't imagine anyone else reading the In Death books. Susan Ericksen is great, in my opinion and, after what seems like tons of books in the series she IS the voice of Dallas, Roarke, Peabody (my favorite), the commander and everyone else. The stories are so entertaining and fun to listen to, I wish J.D. Robb could write more of them. When she writes as Nora Roberts, the books don't send me but this series is one of my very favorites.

    "Beware!! Segments may cause pants-peeing!!"

I am at a loss to come up with enough superlatives for J.D. Robb (author) and Susan Ericksen (narrator)!! There are "scenes" in this one that I played for friends, out of context, because they are so PERFECTLY staged. I would point out that that alone should tell you a LOT!! You can't HAVE such scenes if you are not thoroughly engrossed in the story and have a big investment in the characters!!

    "I'm in Heaven"

I just discovered JD Robb's "In Death" series of books not long ago. I'm in book hog heaven! I started with book one and am working my way up the list. As soon as I finish one I move on to the next.

I love the characters. A good plot will fall flat if you don't like the main characters. All of Robb's characters are fleshed out, warts and all.

Susan Ericksen is irreplaceable as the narrator. She does an excellent job.

I highly recommend all of the "In Death" books for a great whodunnit escape in fantasy.

    "another great read, but..."
What did you love best about Judgment in Death?

The action, the way it kept me guessing about what was really going on, the continuing great cast of characters. I loved the drunk scene between Eve and Mavis!

    Any additional comments?

I have always loved the In Death series. I have read and now listened to all of them. Susan Ericksen is an amazing narrator and is THE voice of the series! However, I do have a concern. I know that Roarke is this edgy bad boy who is in love with Eve, who can be a bit edgy herself. I accept a lot in these books as just part of their unique 'couple dynamic,' to quote Peabody in this book. I was however, quite disturbed by some of Roarke's actions toward Eve in this book. I was shocked to basically find a rape scene in chapter 11, billed as erotic sex. I don't care how strong a woman is or what the dynamic is...rape is rape. Even the woman becoming aroused does not change that. That is just body mechanics. When she was saying no and trying to get away, that should have been his cue to back off. There's being a bad boy, and there is being a criminal jerk, and I believe Roarke crossed that line in chapter 11. Having read all of the other books, I have not seen that, so I don't feel as though I am overreacting here. I wish that Nora Roberts would understand that a lot of women read these books, and there are already so many women out there in abusive relationships. Having this character cross this line and putting it in a positive light does these women no favors. They don't need to be left wondering if they are are wrong for feeling violated BC their man forced himself on them. They don't need to wonder if he was just being a sexy bad boy after all and if they were just strong and cool like Eve it wouldn't bother them. This is a dangerous message, and yes even fun books like these can be important conduits for messages on how women should feel about themselves and let men treat them. I implore the author be aware of this when writing, and to send positive images only....strong, courageous women and men who truly love their women by showing gentleness and respect, always.

    "I Cried!"

This one really got to me at the end, it tugged on the heartstrings.

I enjoyed the plot greatly, and did not see the ending coming at all.

    Great addition to series!

    "disappointing addition to the series"

Unlike the rest of the series, this one took me FOREVER to slog through as it was slow and lacked the normal humor and character charm of the others. If you miss this one well you actually haven't miss anything

    "ANOTHER GREAT JD ROBB BOOK"
Would you listen to Judgment in Death again? Why?

    YES

Who was your favorite character and why?

ROURKE, love his IRISH accent and mysteriousness about him

What about Susan Ericksen’s performance did you like?

Susan Ericksen does a great job with all her characters, she started this book off a little slow but it picked up as the book moved on. Many readers commented about the Peabody character and I had braced myself it wouldn't sound like Peabody, but I thought she still held true to her character.

"Always Impressed. Even after Book 11."
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. Every mystery keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what unfolds.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, both with the case and with Eve's personal life. I love listening to how Eve and her husband and friends deal with the cases together. The dynamic is fascinating and well developed.

What does Susan Ericksen bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her incredibly talented performances. Even at book 11, I am always so impressed with this narrator. The author continues to add characters, and Susan Ericksen has a unique and always fitting voice for every character. She never messes up. When I read, I unknowingly give characters a certain voice in my head, and Susan Ericksen does this for you. It makes the books that much more enjoyable. I am so thankful she is the narrator for this series and hope she is until the very last book.
