A disappointment

While I generally enjoy Meg Gardner, I found this novel very difficult to swallow. Everything that can go wrong does go wrong, and there are way too many improbables in the narrative line. No one in the story seems to take the crimes seriously enough; i.e., a blatant kidnapping is ignored by everyone, including the victim and the police, first degree assault is disregarded, accessory to murder one is excused as poor judgment, etc. If I didn't need to keep both hands on the wheel while listening and driving, I would have been tearing my hair out. Kudos to the narrator, who did a fine job with weak material.

Meg, you can do better.

I really wish you didn’t

I really was having a hard time with the whiny nasally voice of this narrator. Which is too bad because the story was pretty great. Except… Except for the where the hell did it the sex scene come from? Way too explicit, way out of the rhythm of the book. And completely unnecessary.
