Brilliant!... except for one thing.

Where does Jarrem Lee - Ghost Hunter - The Tollington Hall Case, The Ancient Burial Barrow, Lord Wentworth's Statue and Professor Taylor's Final Experiment rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I highly enjoyed the dramatic retelling in the old radio play style.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jarrem Lee - Ghost Hunter - The Tollington Hall Case, The Ancient Burial Barrow, Lord Wentworth's Statue and Professor Taylor's Final Experiment?

The chilling moments as the investigators realised the truth about Lord Wentworth's infatuation with his new acquisition.

Did Jerry Robbins and The Colonial Radio Players do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?

Yes, it was excellent. The character acting and writing easily rendered each character distinguishable from the rest.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I did listen to this in one sitting.

Any additional comments?

The performances were largely good, very professional - but the lead male playing the young chemist sidekick of Jarrem Lee was a let down. A highly mobile accent and awkward delivery detracted from the overall high quality of the performance. I will still be looking out for more of these shows, but I sincerely hope that experience improves his performance.

Paranormal Excellence!

What made the experience of listening to Jarrem Lee - Ghost Hunter - The Tollington Hall Case, The Ancient Burial Barrow, Lord Wentworth's Statue and Professor Taylor's Final Experiment the most enjoyable?

The voice acting and script writing. These shows are incredibly well acted. You actually believe Lee and Bennett are about to do battle with demonic and paranormal forces. The writing is top notch. The stories are immensely enjoyable and feel authentic, from the listing of the occult tomes, the talismans, herbs of protection etc. it feels like I am a 1900s occult investigator!

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Yes, very much so! I was in constant suspense waiting for the conclusion and climax of how Lee and Bennett would solve their current investigation.

Which character – as performed by Jerry Robbins and The Colonial Radio Players – was your favorite?

Jerry Robbins is just amazing as Jerram Lee. His delivery is near perfect, especially with Lee's first introduction to Bennett in the Tollington Hall Case. David Allie (not sure of the spelling) was excellent as the sidekick Bennett. The rest of the players all did phenomenal acting as well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I certainly chuckled at some of the lighter exchanges between Lee and Bennett and was certainly cheering for them as well!

Neophyte Ghost Hunters start here!

What did you love best about Jarrem Lee - Ghost Hunter - The Tollington Hall Case, The Ancient Burial Barrow, Lord Wentworth's Statue and Professor Taylor's Final Experiment?

Tollington Hall case sets the scene for the rest of the series, introducing characters, methods, and menaces. Brilliant! Ancient Burial Barrow is my favorite. Nothing in the episode is ever scene by Lee and Bennett, only experienced. This is the most subtle way to frighten. Lord Wentworth's statue is pure occult detective at the turn of the century. The episode is delightfully filled with occult references. The final episode is Professor Taylor's Final Experiment. It's a combo of science and occult both H.G. Wells, Thomas Edison, and Jules Verne would've loved. Volume 1 stands alone.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Having listened to a lot of old time radio, I expected to know all the answers and what CRT pulled off with Jarrem Lee had me ready to buy the next volume!

Have you listened to any of Jerry Robbins and The Colonial Radio Players ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Dandelion Wine, Something Wicked, Captain Blood, Ticonderoga, Jeeves & Wooster. Jarrem Lee establishes the line for Jerry Robbins and CRT in their occult detective shows.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yup; and again.

An instant favorite!

This is old time radio fun with modern production quality. Extremely well done with superb voice acting. The story lines are interesting and surprising. Really cannot find any faults with this purchase, especially for such a reasonable price.

Abominable accents too distracting

I have listened to other Colonial Radio Theater performances, including the Perry Mason series, which I enjoyed. But I had hard time following the plots here because the horrible, horrible British accents were too distracting. My advice: sample the audio before you purchase.

Not bad for a podcast, but....

What disappointed you about Jarrem Lee - Ghost Hunter - The Tollington Hall Case, The Ancient Burial Barrow, Lord Wentworth's Statue and Professor Taylor's Final Experiment?

The stories are thin, the story-telling skeletal, and the performances do nothing to put meat on these bones.

What could Gareth Tilly have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I know the tradition these tales are playing off of, and they'd benefit greatly from attending more closely to the craftsmanship of that model.

Would you be willing to try another one of Jerry Robbins and The Colonial Radio Players ’s performances?

I doubt I'll try another of the Jerrem Lee Ghost Hunter stories, but I'd give another Colonial Radio Players production a shot.
