Editorial reviews

What happens when Kyle Donavan begins to be attracted to the very woman he is sent to catch…for a crime she may not have committed? In Jade Island, Book Two in the Donavan series by Elizabeth Lowell, listeners won't wait to find out. Robin Rowan's sultry performance places listeners immediately in China, searching for the true thief of one of China's legendary cultural treasures. Suspenseful and romantic, lavish and ornate, this story of gems, big business, crime, false allegiances, and steamy romance will have listeners anxious for the next installment.

Publisher's summary

Wild and restless, Kyle Donovan has freed himself from the constraints of his family's high-powered gem-trading empire to rove the world as a treasure hunter. Now the president of Donovan International has given Kyle an assignment with explosive ramifications. A case he must take.

When one of China's legendary cultural treasures is stolen, Lianne Blakely, a mysterious and beautiful jade expert, is accused of the theft. It's Kyle's job to get to the bottom of what could be a potential disaster for the Donovans as well as Lianne. But Kyle finds himself irresistibly drawn to the exotic beauty and captivated by her fierce claim of innocence.

Soon they are in dangerous pursuit of the real thief, drawn deeper into the perils of spiraling power plays, and linked by a passion as powerful as the lore of the ancient culture and as enduring as the splendor of the treasured jade.

Listen to another Donovan gem.

The poorly done audio

The woman who performed the story was very poorly fitted. She made the Donovan men sound like 10 year olds. Her timing was off as well. No suspense. She did better with the female voice. Loved the story.

Audible do NOT change original text!

If I want to hear advertising I would watch tv! Do not add "Land Rover" to text where it was not originally written. This is not the only obvious change I have found in my recent downloads. Leave the books as they were originally written.

An Older Series that stands the test of time

Would you listen to Jade Island again? Why?

I found the characters to be compelling and well rounded.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Jade Island?

The discussions of the intricacies of Jade and the role it played in culture is an interesting interchange but nothing beats the scene wheere the hero and heroine first meet at a gem exhibition.

What does Robin Rowan bring to the story that you wouldn???t experience if you just read the book?

Enjoyed how the reader brings the characters to life helping me to see them and their interactions in my minds eye.

Any additional comments?

This is book two of the Donovan series. You'll want to listen to them all.

Excellent intriguing story

Loved this one more I think than the first. The relationship between Kyle & Lianne was more intense. Loved learning some about the Chinese culture and jade, thou there was a little more than we needed on jade than I thought necessary. The intrigue was edge of your seat at times. Very interesting family dynamics on both sides. Good narration by Ms Rowan.

entertaining

Interesting premise in this one, my second Lowell book. Two families involved in precious gems task a family member to get to know the other to get an inside track to the other family. The two not only get to know each other but sparks fly immediately. I don't know that Elizabeth Lowell is known as a romance writer but this one had plenty of romance in it. It was an entertaining listen, though, as the author wove the story line of the mystery, the gem in this story being jade. You learn a lot about jade in this book. I enjoyed the characters, the setting in Seattle and the San Juan Islands, and the plot was OK. Sometimes it seemed the book didn't flow as well as it should but it didn't detract from the book too much. I will listen to book 3 in this 4 book series.

Love this series

I read this series long ago, and decided to reacquaint myself with the stories when I saw them on audio. I was not disappointed. I believe this is the first Elizabeth Lowell series I was introduced to. And, I really enjoy the mystery, suspense, and characters. She has penned a few of my favorite who-done-its. And, I like Robin Rowan in this series. I don't think I've ever heard her before, but I really enjoyed listening to this. It's got just enough to keep you totally locked in. The pacing is good. Enjoyed it just as much as when I read it years ago.

Lowell at her best

The story is interesting and part of a series that I've enjoyed. The performance was fine, but when are we going to demand a woman's voice and a man's voice to have a more realistic reading? As soon as a company starts coming up with both a male and female reading, I'll be buying them!! Love the Donovan males!

Lowell abriged her own book...

The basic storyline itself is fine - pretty standard for Elizabeth Lowell. Where this book went wrong for me was in the editing. It skips around and seems like parts are missing. It is so bad that I actually compared this to the text version of the book - convinced that the audio version I downloaded must be the abriged version of the book. But nope...it was written this way.

Terrible editing

The Audible version of this is messed up so much that the plot is impossible to follow. I checked out this audiobook from the library and I liked it. The story was not all jumbled up. Audible needs to do some work on their version.
