Publisher's summary

A killer is at work in the nation's capital, and he seems to like variety. His victims range from kindergarten students to senators - not even the President is safe. Alex Cross, hero of Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls, is awakened one night to confront the brutal murder of a little girl only blocks away from his house. With a single clue, a mysterious rhyme signed "Jack and Jill", the skilled and courageous Cross sets out to track the murderer. Can he work fast enough to spare the killer's next victim?

Entertaining Listen

I usually am not a fan of unabridged versions of books, but this one is an exception. I felt like I was listening to a radio show production of the book. it entertained me on my commute. Good story, a suspensful who dunnit.

BLAIR READ MORE TO ME!

Where does Jack and Jill rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

To be fair, I have only listened to two books so far. This is second by only a half of a star. I am picking winners.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

It could have been longer. The high school serial killer character could have been better developed. What was his background?

What does Blair Underwood and John Rubinstein bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

They both read the story like they were there. I was there. The two of them were excellent. I was watching the movie in my head.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I had didn't laugh or cry, but I did gasp a couple of times. Since I listen at work, my coworkers were a little concerned.

Any additional comments?

Blair Underwood and John Rubinstein are great!

Waste of time and money

What would have made Jack and Jill better?

This book was short and not very well written. The performance by Mr. Underwood was awful and darn-right unprofessional. The writing was sloppy and amateur-ish.

What was most disappointing about James Patterson’s story?

Alex Cross doesn't curse as much as he did in this book. Mr. Cross is much more intelligent and professional in other stories. This book felt unedited and rushed.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Blair Underwood and John Rubinstein ?

No idea, but Blair Underwood's tense voice is laughable.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I still love Alex Cross.

Any additional comments?

This is the only Patterson book I haven't enjoyed.

Nice twists

What did you love best about Jack and Jill?

Attention to detail is always a good thing and the human interest helps bond to the character, but the many unexpected twists in the storyline keeps you going from daydreaming about the presented facts to intense listening for new clues. The ending is not what I expected which helps me rate this book higher than many.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

With many crime novels, the ending becomes clear but the problem of resolution is unclear. With this book, just when the ending seems clear, there is a major twist that disrupts all preconceived notions. This technique engages the listener more, to the point you hang on every word.

Love the Alex Cross series

Any additional comments?

James Patterson is one of my favorite authors. His stories always grab you from the first page and you don't want to put it down until you're finished; and then you can't wait to read the next one. I don't get a chance to read as often as I like, so being able to listen to the Alex Cross series on audible is a perfect way for me to catch up. This series in particular is my favorite. At the end of each book you want more; it's like an addiction. Jack and Jill is just as engrossing as Along Came a Spider and Kiss the Girls. James Patterson and Alex Cross never disappoints.

Tring to be a thriller

The story lacks credibility. The subplots don't come together into a story. Alex Cross seems to be to much a super hero. The idea has potential but didn't deliver. I got so bored with it I didn't even finish it.
