Publisher's Summary

Once again, Kinsey Millhone, America's favorite female P.I., embroils herself in a complex and entertaining Alphabet Murder Mystery. When Wendell Jaffe, mastermind of a real-estate scam, disappeared at sea, no body was found. Now, five years later, he's declared legally dead, and California Fidelity has to pay up on his life insurance policy to the tune of half-a-million dollars. Soon after, the tune slides off-key when Jaffe is spotted in Mexico and Fidelity hires Kinsey Millhone to sort things out. Oddly enough, Kinsey's investigation of the con man's past triggers a surprising inquiry into her own family history. And, as the two stories intertwine, our favorite P.I. finds herself facing dangerous consequences.

    "Pronunciation, Pronunciation, Pronunciation"
What three words best describe Judy Kaye’s performance?

Her performance is okay except that she doesn't pronounce "Lompoc" and "San Luis Obispo" properly. Not a big deal unless you lived there. As a graduate of Lompoc High School, and Cal Poly - San Luis Obispo, I know the area well. So, here's the deal: Lompoc = Lom-poke, and San Luis Obispo = San Lewis Obispo. I know, I know, it may not seem logical about the Luis thing. People think because it's a town in the Southwest it should sound Spanish and perhaps it did, as in "Lewie". Once. Lompoc is mentioned from time to time in books and TV stories but only once have I heard it pronounced correctly. For this series, it's really important to get it right.
