I love espionage, legal, and detective thrillers but listen to most genres. Very frequent reviews. No plot spoilers! Please excuse my typos!
Mickey Spillane and Max Allan Collins were/are the masters of the art of writing detective novels. When Spillane died 10 years ago he left a large number of incomplete novel transcripts . So far Max Alan Collins has completed and released 8 of them in the Mike Hammer series and three others not in the series. It's in the Book is a Mike Hammer short story started by Spillane and completed by Collins.
This is a fairly typical Mike Hammer story, light and fun, with a terrific twist at the end. The story is a treasure. Scott Brick narrates brilliantly!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Before this short story I had not read a Mike Hammer book in more than 50 years, but as a teenager the series was my favorite recreational reading. Collins is now almost 70 himself. I hope he will continue the Mike Hammer series.
Sassy dialogue, humor, and a great reader are important to me.
Not the best as it had no humor in it. On the dark side. I picked the wrong story to investigate this author so unless reviewers tell me there is humor in the series, this one is not for me.
Our young son devotion to his caring mother
Oh my he is so good! I purchased 3 short stories he reads to get a feel for the 3 authors and he adds so much to the story. I just purchased 8 Clive Cluster books all at once on sale because this reader is that good. Move over Jonathan Davis and Victor Selzak
New 1.25x speed is excellent for these older stories
