Publisher's summary

“A crackling addition to [the] Prey series” (Entertainment Weekly) from number one New York Times best-selling author John Sandford.

In a wealthy Minneapolis neighborhood, two elderly women are bludgeoned to death. They are apparent victims of a random robbery, though nothing of value appears to have been stolen. But when Lucas Davenport looks deeper, he fears that the victims weren’t so random, and the items stolen were far from invaluable. As a pattern emerges it leads Lucas to...certainly not where he expected. Which is too bad, because the killers are expecting him. And that’s only the first surprise….

Good book but with reservations

My review is coming from a personal viewpoint. i really didn't like the story line of violently murdering elderly people. It wasn't clear for most of the book why this happened & I found that quite distracting. Lucas was of course in his usual good form but when the narrator kept moving back & forth using peoples first names, then last names again it got a little confusin who he was referring to. Other than that a good book worth the read.

Sandford doesn’t disappoint

Another Prey success. Well research and great character development. Ferrite does his masterful presentation. My only complaint is I’m running out of Sandford novels

The Sandford Touch

This novel really follows up on what we expect from John Sandford. The twists and turns of this one does not disappoint. It really gets into the mind of the criminal and the cop as the desperate criminals try to figure the next move to cover their crimes, and the cop struggles with just enough information to keep him going, and questioning why this is happening. Great listen!

Another excellent

While some authors seem to lose their edge or focus, John Sanford continues to get better and better with a continuing character. His main character, Lucas Davenport, continues to evolve and define with each book. I found "Invisible Prey" somehow funnier than some of the other Prey novels. The conversations between characters is believable and often very witty. Sanford includes all the favorite supporting characters who keep Lucas informed and in line.
I would highly recommend this book and I am already looking forward to the next book in the series.

Great read

I always enjoy John Sandford's books. This was not a disappointment. It was full of changes when you thought you knew who did it and then you change your mind.

Great plot, writing slightly awkward

Would you try another book from John Sandford and/or Richard Ferrone?

I liked the plot well enough to give the writer another chance. Actually, the thing that I continually find awkward is the gratuitous use of bad language--not to heighten the drama or express a character's frustration, but just to sound contemporary. A surgeon who isn't even mildly irritated uses bad language, and so do several other characters who are supposedly educated and affluent. So as you are listening, the effect is jarring. Anyone who has ever used a computer will at times be at their wit's end, and probably teenagers would drive you to think one or two of those words, but just for shock value this interrupts the narrative. Where you can skim in reading it yourself, this language pretty much jumps at you while you are listening. But good story; plausible and intriguing, so will try one more by Sandford and see if he was just on a tear or whether he likes this style of writing.
