Editorial reviews

Editors Select, June 2014 - In typical James Patterson fashion, Invisible was suspenseful, fast-paced, and filled with twists and turns. The story follows Emmy Dockery, a brash and outspoken FBI analyst who is convinced that a string of supposedly accidental deaths is actually the work of one unknown serial killer. Dismissed by both her family and the Bureau, Emmy must find the link between these closed cases before more lives are claimed. Patterson and Ellis did a spectacular job with both character development and plotline. There was never a dull moment as the story built up to its twisted and surprising climax. I couldn’t put this book down – and with January LaVoy as the female narrator, I can’t wait to revisit this story in audio. –Laura, Audible Editor

Publisher's summary

Everyone thinks Emmy Dockery is crazy. Obsessed with finding the link between hundreds of unsolved cases, Emmy has taken leave from her job as an FBI researcher. Now all she has are the newspaper clippings that wallpaper her bedroom, and her recurring nightmares of an all-consuming fire.

Not even Emmy's ex-boyfriend, field agent Harrison "Books" Bookman, will believe her that hundreds of kidnappings, rapes, and murders are all connected. That is, until Emmy finds a piece of evidence he can't afford to ignore. More murders are reported by the day—and they're all inexplicable. No motives, no murder weapons, no suspects. Could one person really be responsible for these unthinkable crimes?

Invisible is James Patterson's scariest, most chilling stand-alone thriller yet.

Oh Yeah! Love Patterson's warped mind

Well this was freaky from beginning to end. And just when I knew who would be the bizzerk killer, they just screwed up my powers of deduction. Loved the story which I think speaks to my dark side. My second Patterson listen but not my last. And not to slight David Ellis who must have his own dark side to work with Patterson.

As stated many times, the narration can make or break a book. I thought the narration helped make the book. Good all the way around.

The Last Hour was Good

Since I’m not a fan of female narrators my opinion may be tainted. The characters were not believable and the story repetitive. The narrator attempting to distinguish male characters simply failed. I really believe this could have been an enjoyable book with a different performer

Dont plan anything

Would you consider the audio edition of Invisible to be better than the print version?

Dont read no mo

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not on the edge but I found my multitasking was impaired.

What does January LaVoy and Kevin Collins bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Audio books are just in my opinion just so much more intriguing than print .Plus you can do the dishes if you wish whilst you listen...cant read and do dishs,,no no

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

no wasnot that type of book

Any additional comments?

1st James Paterson audio for me...this book is well done moves at a nice pace...just enough characters and plot to keep your head phones on till your ears sweat

A remarkable work that was completely unexpected

If you could sum up Invisible in three words, what would they be?

Unexpected, Gripping, Surprising

What did you like best about this story?

This story was unexpected. From the format, to the structure, to the ending I never knew what was going to happen next despite being certain that I knew who did it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

I finished it in one day.

Any additional comments?

Don't stop because you believe you know who did it. You will be wrong!
