Into the Light delivered a twisted tale of manipulation, forbidden passion and mystery as author Aleatha Romig takes us to the streets of Detroit and the remote wilderness of Alaska as she weaves a captivating story that will grab the reader and leave them begging for more.
The characters: Sara awakens blind and injured. She remembers nothing, not even the color of her hair. Her husband and friends aid her in her recovery but she is shocked to discover she and her husband are members of the Light an oppressive group led by Father Gabriel. Women do not question and rely on their husband’s wisdom, guidance and correction. Eek gads, time spent in this cult was riveting. It is evident that the author did extensive research regarding cults and she highlighted all aspects of this way of life. Jacob Adam Sara’s husband is a pilot and member of the upper echelon of The Light. His relationship with Sara, the delegation and his inner thoughts shed light on the inner workings of The Light. He cares for Sara, and his need to protect her made him appealing. From the onset, I liked Stella our investigator. Despite warnings, she will not dodge her instincts and she is determined to find her missing friend and discover who is murdering young women.
Into the Light has three narrators each assigned a voice and this choice only enhanced my enjoyment. Through their tones and inflection, the reader picks up subtle clues and foreshadowing. Romig weaved mystery and suspense surrounding a cult known as The Light. Brilliantly executed, Into the Light immediately pulled me in as we met Sarah Adams. The author then shared perspectives from husband Jacob and Stella Montgomery an investigative journalist in Detroit. The different perspectives quickly drew me in and allowed me to begin piecing things together. Romig then delivered answers in bursts that left me holding my breath, shouting I knew it and screaming for the next book. The tale ends on a cliffhanger that will have you jumping out of your seat and eager for the next book.
At a little under fourteen hours, I devoured Into the Light. It was nerve wracking. I found myself holding my breath and stopping everything I was doing to hear each word. Whether you read or listen to this tale, I can promise you one heck of a ride. Each carefully crafted thread unravels flawlessly as it promises the reader thrills, chills and complicated emotions. You will scream in protest at the outlandish practices of the cult even as you become caught up in the romance between Sara and Jacob. Twisted, dark and completely addictive I cannot wait to listen to Away from the Dark.
The concept sounded fascinating and I SO wanted to like this book. So much so that I pushed through to the very end, to the last twist that made no sense whatsoever. I wish I hadn't wasted my time. The story was either predictable or nonsensical at every turn. The narration for Sara's character was horrible. The narrator sounded like she was doing a baby voice the whole time... Which made sex Scenes beyond uncomfortable- downright pedophilic.
This book was GREAT, but then the ending floored me!!! There better be a sequel or I will be so disappointed!!
I was very pleased with every aspect of this book. Loved the story line as well as the twists and unexpected turns.
The Light definitely kept me coming back for more. I listen to my audio books during my commute, I could not wait to get in my car in the morning and evening to hear what would happen next!
Not really sure I have a favorite, loved it all.
I did have an extreme reaction to the end!! I did not realized this was just the first book in the series, the writer leaves you hanging!! I cannot not wait for the next book, I hope it is soon!!!
I'm a cheerleader for authors, narrators and audiobooks I love! All things Romance, Horror and Sci Fi
Told from multiple view points it's really two stories in one. Stella is a feisty, take no nonsense reporter whose best friend has disappeared. Hot on the trail she's hunting down leads while Dylan a police officer and her boy toy tries desperately to keep her safe. Of course Stella is hardheaded and her rashness gets her into serious trouble.
The second story deals with Sarah who has been in an accident and loses her memory. Caught up in a cult the only one she has to rely on Jacob her husband and he is a hard taskmaster, insisting that she conform to the cults strict rules without question.
There is a cliffhanger but it ends well and I look forward to the conclusion.
Warning there is corporal punishment involved.
I would recommend this book to a friend because it's a captivating read.
I'd compare this book to any other Aleatha Romig book because it's as suspenseful, complex, shockingly twisty-turny and engrossing as all her other books.
I loved Sara!
No, this book didn't make me laugh or cry, but it did make me think, ALOT, and it made me sad for certain characters at times.
The storyline was really intriguing and had me listening non-stop. I couldn't get to the end fast enough. Now the next book in this series can't come fast enough!
First by this author and already listened to Insidious but this book is even better!!!!! this book is AMAZING!! not sure how I will wait until the second book to come out in October.
I can say I figured out ONE thing only on this book but the BOOM at the end!!! NO clue! I was totally blindsided by it....
If you are looking for a book that will make you laugh at the ridiculous way of how these women need to ASK a man for permission to SPEAK, you will feel for Sarah and Stella and Jacob and even Raquel....... GIVE THIS BOOK A CHANCE.........
The story is amazing! The narrators did a fantastic job! The author is one of the best story tellers I've had the pleasure of reading. This is a must read/listen to! There should be a 6 star option!
I liked having both male and female narrators.
Sara, Stella, Jacob, lots of greats to choose from really
They did a great job so I can't pick.
YES! I'm freaking out right now.
This is an excellent mystery. I thought I had it figured out, but I didn't. I should have known by now that this author would take me on an emotional ride, but I was completely knocked back by it. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book! I recommend having a stiff drink ready.
Not sure. It was pretty predictable and not good enough for a cliff hanger ending.
It was predictable and she filled sections of the book with unnecessary material.
It was okay.
Too predictable and not near nail biting enough to end the way it did. I have no desire to see what happens and really didn't care about any of the characters.
