Publisher's summary

When Tom Faraday joined internationally renowned CERUS Biotech, he thought he'd landed his dream job. A chance to work with their famous CEO, William Bern, perhaps to change the world.

But Tom has found himself in an organization in crisis. The company bet the house on a radical neural interface project, only to be blocked by a government with reasons of its own. Now CERUS is running on vapor and the corporate vultures are gathering. Bern isn't one to go down without a fight. He's turned things around before, and he has a plan to do it again.

The problem is, 25 years ago CERUS made a similar mistake. And if history is repeating itself, Tom might be the only one who can stop it.

Interesting Futuristic Thriller

The author did a great job mixing realistic ideas with Sci-Fi to create an original interesting futuristic thriller novel. The book started out kind of slow, and I didn’t really start getting into it until about two thirds of the way through. But once the book picks up, it’s great and I didn’t want to pause listening until the end. The book had several twists and turns that kept me guessing the whole time. The narrator does an amazing job with this novel. He used different distinct voices for all the characters, and the range of accents he used was impressive. Overall, this was a great audiobook and definitely worth a listen.

Slow building interesting techno-thriller

While the story was slow to get me hooked, it built slowly and consistently until it got to the point that I couldn't put it down. I'm a huge fan of books that are in it for the long build instead of providing cheap thrills up front and this is a prime example.

The narrator did a great job with unique voices for each of the characters and consistent great delivery of each line.

If I had to pick one thing I didn't really like about the book it would have to be the fact that by the time I really began to like and root for the main character the book was almost over. That in itself is only minor and I think that any changes would have been a disservice to the rest of the book.

All in all a great story that I'll be recommending to my friends!

Sit back and enjoy

Liked the narrator, very nice voice. Loved the storyline. Great plot, a bit predictable but very entertaining.

What a techno-thrillride!

I can listen to audiobooks at work, so that generally helps with listening to a 10 hour long audiobook in one sitting, but honestly, in this case I might have done it regardless of where I was. (It should also be noted that I didn't get much actual work done today because parts of this book were so engaging. Oops :D)

The premise was interesting, and the tech was well explained, well thought out, made sense, and was accurate (or at least sounded accurate in the world in which it was presented). The plot had plenty of twists and turns, was actually thrilling (which you don't always find in thrillers, let's be honest), and fast paced. The characters were well written. The protagonist was easy to root for and the antagonist was understandably easy to hate.

The narrator was amazing. He gave the book a great voice, and made the more technical stuff sound easy to understand. He does some impressive accents as well. I'm honestly never expecting anyone not Japanese to convincingly portray someone Japanese. Surprise!

All and all, this was a really great use of 10 hours. :)

I can't wait to listen to the next installment. Here's hoping for an audiobook of Resurface!

A terrifyingly real feeling Technothriller

CERUS is the company to work for, and Tom Faraday has just been headhunted to work for them. His career couldn't get any better. But after Faraday attends the opening ceremony for the new CERUS Tower he cannot remember much. He wakes up 2 days later and is almost late for work. And that's just the beginning of his problems.

The narration for Interface was done by Daniel Philpott who I've never listened to before. Philpott does a really great job turning a technical book into one that is easy to read and listen to. When you can do that with a detailed book like Interface, I think that you will have a long and enjoyable career narrating Technothrillers and Hard Science Fiction novels.

If Tony Batton hasn't worked in high-tech fields I would be amazed. The amount of accuracy within the pages and minutes of Interface were just amazing. I know that there was (and will be) some speculative parts, but that's what makes it fiction. The scariest kind of fiction is that which feels like it's either already true or could become true any moment.

Batton takes one of those scary "what if" scenarios and turns it into a "woah" kind of story. The characters within were really well thought out and played their parts perfectly. Their strengths and weaknesses were on full display and Batton made full use of each character.

The feel of the book was what got me. I honestly felt like I couldn't put it down. The pages and minutes just absolutely flew by. Sure, the narration helped this a bit, but the story-telling is just great. I honestly hope that Batton continues to write within this genre (or one similar to it). I feel like he could be the next Crichton or Douglas E Richards.

I just have one thing to say. Tony Batton is a force to be reckoned out for in the Technothriller genre. Seriously, be on the lookout for more from him.

A good read, interesting...captivating

I usually stay away from the fantasy, science fiction.... but it sounded interesting and it was interesting.... enjoyable ! I like the approach of the author, nothing too far reaching or impossible to believe. I'm going to look him up and find something else he wrote for my next book !

Hard to put down at times

Any additional comments?

I tend to judge my books by how many times I delayed going to bed in order to finish up a chapter and for this title it was quite a few times.

If I had to compare this book to other titles I would say it is written in similar styles as Dan Browns "Angels and Demons" or Daniel Suarez "Daemon" series because even though it is a work of fiction everything sounds possible which, to me, makes the story even more immersive.

The narration was amazing and made the book come to life with each character having a unique voice.

The only real negative I heard was the intro with the narrator taking, what I felt where, unnatural pauses while speaking but that part was over quickly and once the real story started I was hooked.

Would I recommend this to my friends: yes
Would I buy the next book in this series: yes

Decent science thriller

Not a bad book, kept my attention, light on the science. Three stars , wouldn’t recommend as a “must read”. A few curve balls at the end.

Boring and giving up

I'm 22 chapters in and the story is not interesting and the characters are not likable. I tried the sample and found it dry but based on good reviews I gave it a chance. However, it turns out that this book is not for me.

Really slow story

I tried to push through to the end, but it was just too plodding of a story to do so.
