Critic reviews

"Mesmerizing prose and intricate plotting lift Turow's superlative legal thriller, his best novel since his bestselling debut, Presumed Innocent....Once again, Turow displays an uncanny ability for making the passions and contradictions of his main characters accessible and understandable." Great Storyteller

Scott Turow is one of the greatest storytellers I have come across. I can't get enough of his books. So far, I have read 'Presumed Innocent', 'Burden of Proof', and 'Innocent'; all three are great stories and I highly recommend them.

Exceptional legal drama

A great follow-up to the classic legal drama "Presumed Innocent". This is nail-biting, edge-of-the-seat reading, but there is also great depth and emotion to the characters. ScottTurow writes intelligent, thoughtful books. And this one is so perfectly narrated by the late Edward Hermann. I am going to miss his wonderful voice.

Return to Kindle County

If you liked Scott Turow's first and best book, Presumed Innocent, which is one of my very favorite books ever, you'll probably like this one. But, if you haven't read Presumed Innocent, read it first. AUDIBLE 20 REVIEW SWEEPSTAKES ENTRY

Good listen

This is a good followup to previous books. It was kind of hard to follow, since I listen at lunch each day (to avoid contact with co-workers). It made me wish for another story about Rusty's life.

Worth the Credit

Turow's stories are always very intelligent, and his characters flawed but always likeable. Interesting premise, with nice tie-ins to its predecessor Presumed Innocent, without being repetitive, Well worth the credit.

Rusty's life reflections touched me

Great courtroom drama but really a wonderful sub-story about an accomplished man who in the Autumn of his years reflects on the lasting love and deep relationship never found. This connects to many of our own lives... successful careers, children, but marriages turned into utilitarian, though basically comfortable relationships held together for the sake of many things, and the sad realization that we are running out of runway to take off and soar as we could as our younger selves. As Thoreau wrote, "The mass of men lead lives of quiet desperation".

Scott Hermann’s narration was just perfect, dissenters notwithstanding. Why? Because I feel Mr. Hermann correctly captured Rusty’s dark but, at times, hopeful outlook and demeanor at the age of a 60 year old (which is where I am) after a lifetime of the subdued parallel life he lived in the recent years of his married life with Barbara.

Fantastic sequel

Turow has been writing great novels since PRESUMED INNOCENT reinvigorated the Legal Thriller and gave way to careers like John Grisham's.
One of his best's traits is his ability to create narrative voices, so unique and deep, it feels as if friends had departed with the last page.
He is also able to produce surprising twists that fit perfectly into his characters moral biases and principles. There's a logic behind his plot, and a logic that works firstly in Kindle's County's world, and never submits to the expectations and predictable turns of a blockbuster novel.
The sequel wasn't as surprising as the first novel, but then, who could surprise you like that again.
I will count the days for the next Kindle County novel to arrive.
Edward Hermann's read is wonderful. Both when he does Rusty's voices, the third person narrative behind Molto, or Nats personal thoughts.
Shame that Audible doesn't credit Orla Cassidy in the Narrated credits. She does a wonderful job with Anna. Not only in capturing the character's voice, but going beyond reading, projecting the character's feelings into her voice with complete ease. She's become one of my favorite narrators with this book.
