Critic reviews

"Mesmerizing prose and intricate plotting lift Turow's superlative legal thriller, his best novel since his bestselling debut, Presumed Innocent....Once again, Turow displays an uncanny ability for making the passions and contradictions of his main characters accessible and understandable." 4.5 Stars for a Great Sequel

Presumed Innocent remains the best mystery I've ever read. I never figured out who the killer was until the last pages, and when I did, it all made sense. This book is not as spellbinding , but it works. And once again, you don't understand what really happened until the end. Its weakness for me was the severely flawed characters. I did not care for this Rusty Savage, though Molto was a pleasant surprise.

Gripping and twisty

Turow turned out another great story with an interesting plot. Characters were well developed and I could put myself in the story as I imagined the scenes. What people will do for revenge...or will they?

This is Terrific Courtroom Drama!

WOW! Loved this one. But for the best listening experience -- please read "Presumed Innocent" before you jump into this one. This book can stand alone, but Presumed Innocent features the same characters 20 years prior and the two books together are unbeatable!

Just when I thought the story was surely coming to and end and the case resolved, the story took another amazing turn that left me yearning for a 24/7 nonstop listening event. The courtroom daring of all concerned is masterfully plotted and narrated.

I am betting you won't quite see the end coming. . . even though I can't help but feel chagrined because "I should have seen it coming!" Great writing, great story telling.

This one's a winner!

Wonderful yet tragic story of the Savich family 20 years after Rusty's difficult acquital of the murder of Carolyn Polhemus. This novel strikes me as very cerebral; we get the chapters from various viewpoints and the teller's thoughts as the chapters unfold. I do think, though, that Mr Turow could do a better job in developing Rusty's character and helping us understand what drives him. As one example, we know he's one who doesn't show feelings and generally plays the cards he's dealt. Is there something in his background or childhood that we should know to help us understand him as he is today? Conversely, I thought he did an admirable job painting Rusty's son's character. This novel was lengthy but it left me wanting more. I'd highly recommend this work!

A Great Read

Some books will stay on my mind long after I've finished reading them. "Innocent" is one of those books. It's characters are rich, complex, human! A book I will recommend to all my friends who enjoy court drama and "who dunnit" stories. Very good book!! I am looking forward to another read (listen) by Scott Turow!

Rusty, don't do it!

What made the experience of listening to Innocent the most enjoyable?

The fact that the main character would be stupid enough to take another woman's life into his hand by having another affair when the first one caused everyone so much pain.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Innocent?

When the computer was opened and the card was viewed.

Have you listened to any of Edward Hermann and Orlagh Cassidy ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I listened to presumed innocent and liked it so I purchased the follow up. Both were equally good. Your need to listen the the first one for the second to have the same impact.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

If I could do that I would have.

Any additional comments?

Be nice to see what happens to Nat and Anna. I can't belive that in real life such a secret could be kept.

In a word...Outstanding

A wonderful book written by a wonderful author! To write characters that are deep, complex, neither all good nor all bad, and wonderful to read. The plot was so good I never could figure out what really happened even to the last page. Mr. Turow, you are my top 5 authors ever. Keep writing and I’ll keep reading!!!

Scott Turow at his absolute best

Even though I remembered the twist at the end of Presumed Innocent well, I was completed surprised by the final outcome in this book. The various readers did the characters extremely well. This is a complex but ultimately very satisfying tale.

Probably Turow's Best Yet

What made the experience of listening to Innocent the most enjoyable?

Turow is just a brilliant writer and he understands the human condition. You don't have to have any legal training to feel his passion and his ability to comment on things we all have pondered in the past.

Who was your favorite character and why?

It had to be Rusty but the character development for all in the book was just phenomenal.

Which character – as performed by Edward Hermann and Orlagh Cassidy – was your favorite?

Probably Tommy. It was interesting how this old prosecutor had changed over the years and I thought Turow made a wonderful example of his integrity.

Any additional comments?

It's difficult to quit listening to as the plot development always leaves one to start second guessing their preconceived conclusions. This is one of the very best books I have listened to and Edward Hermann is just fantastic.

Engrossing and well read but.....

More contrived than intricate
The legal twists were fascinating, the human behavior- not so much
