Publisher's summary

#1 WORLDWIDE BESTSELLER • Harvard professor of symbology Robert Langdon awakens in an Italian hospital, disoriented and with no recollection of the past thirty-six hours, including the origin of the macabre object hidden in his belongings.

“One hell of a good read.... As close as a book can come to a summertime cinematic blockbuster.” —
USA Today

“A diverting thriller.” —
Entertainment Weekly

With a relentless female assassin trailing them through Florence, he and his resourceful doctor, Sienna Brooks, are forced to flee.

Embarking on a harrowing journey, they must unravel a series of codes, which are the work of a brilliant scientist whose obsession with the end of the world is matched only by his passion for one of the most influential masterpieces ever written, Dante Alighieri's The Inferno.

Dan Brown has raised the bar yet again, combining classical Italian art, history, and literature with cutting-edge science in this captivating thriller.

OK, but . . .

I found Dan Brown’s latest conspiracy thriller to about average as these types of novels go. It’s almost as if Dan Brown, like so many other authors is imitating, well, Dan Brown. As other reviewers have noted, it follows the Brown formula, which includes:

• A deadly conspiracy
• A clandestine organization
• A powerful agency
• An intelligent young woman
• Clues buried in art, religion, or in this case the book A Divine Comedy, Dante’s horrifying portrayal of Hell, about which our hero Robert Langdon just happens to be an expert. In Brown’s last novel, The Lost Symbol, Langdon was an expert on the Masons.
• A ticking clock

Brown does a good job of keeping up the suspense, but because of the formula it felt to me like I had already read this book, and I correctly guessed its ending. In general it’s an entertaining read, but don’t expect another Da Vinci code.

Thought provoking disturbing attention grabbing!

Even if Brown''s science is flawed, his premise makes upsetting sense....riveting!, alarmong, Fitz with zero - pop movement of the seventies.

interesting story - until the end

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

it was hard to stop - good pacing and interesting use of scenery - since I'd been to most places in the book it was like reliving a trip!

Any additional comments?

too preachy at the end - a little editing to realize that he had hit home his overpopulation theme would have been great at the end - we get it! The story was great despite the unnecessary soapbox delivery at the end.

Captures me to the end!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, definitely, but only to friends who enjoy good thrillers mixed with history. I have been a long time Dan Brown fan and this book was #1 on my Must Read list. It did not disappoint! I personally love twists and Dan Brown is skilled in writing them.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

I didn't want to stop listening! I'd want to fall asleep while listening to the book but would be afraid I'd lose my place or miss a part as I dozed off. Dan Brown has a way of leaving you hanging just enough to where you tell yourself, I just want to listen 5 minutes more to finish off this "scene", then I find myself repeating that cycle 10 or 20 more times until a whole hour has passed. He reveals plot points just enough to keep you wanting more.

What about Paul Michael’s performance did you like?

I found his performance to be well done. I liked the use of different accents to portray the different characters. For a book who's characters travel to many different countries, a narrator like him is much appreciated.
