The internationally best-selling author "squarely in the ranks of Patricia Cornwell and Kathy Reichs" (Publishers Weekly) shows off her superb talent with this brilliantly conceived, skillfully executed tale of suspense.
In Karin Slaughter's exciting new thriller, an officer is shot point-blank in the Grant County police station and police chief Jeffrey Tolliver is wounded, setting off a terrifying hostage situation with medical examiner Sara Linton at the center. Working outside the station, Lena Adams, newly reinstated to the force, and Frank Wallace, Jeffrey's second in command, must try to piece together who the shooter is and how to rescue their friends before Jeffrey dies. For the sins of the past have caught up with Sara and Jeffrey - with a vengeance...
Deftly interweaving present and past, Slaughter - dubbed "the new face of crime" by Book magazine - offers another brilliant knife-edge tale of suspense that cements her place among the most outstanding practitioners of crime fiction today.

I absolutely love the characters in these books. I read them out of order, but it didn't matter. Amazing! You won't be able to stop listening.
I don't usually rush out for all the "best sellers", but give each intriguing book/author a look. I have found many diamonds in the rough.
I think this is the best book in this series so far. In the last couple of books it was going towards a soap opera drama. This was a fast pace mystery with two time lines.
I enjoy all of Karin Slaughter books. This one was no exception. The narration as usual was outstanding. Drove around in my car just to listen.
Great story, interesting characters, very suspenseful, couldn't stop listening and thought the narration was very well done.
I just love Sara and Jeffery (though I read the Will Trent series first and Will wins my heart) and this book did a great job of expanding their story.
I appreciated how well Slaughter told two stories at the same time without them conflicting and brought them full circle at the end.
I've listened to a few books in the series read by someone else and hands down, Kathleen Early is the best narrator for these books. She gives such life to the characters and, for me, she was the voice I imagined Sara having.
Stories are a journey and a destination worth while.
I like this story better than any in the grant county series so far! The story line was excellent and the way she shifted from the past to present kept me on my toes in both stories! I love the narration too, the narrator is perfect!!
if you are fan, yes otherwise read other slaughter books.
confusing story line and not sure how character is developed to fit with other slaughter characters
narrator is ok
I am reading slaughter in sequence to see if I am missing something
Not buying audible too expensive to experiment
