Publisher's summary

Police officers shot

Detective Michael Bennett arrests an infamous Mexican crime lord in a deadly chase that leaves Bennett's lifelong friend, Hughie McDonough, dead. From jail, the prisoner vows to rain epic violence down upon New York City - and to get revenge on Michael Bennett.

Judges murdered

To escape the chaos, Bennett takes his 10 kids and their beautiful nanny, Mary Catherine, on a much-needed vacation to his family's cabin near Newburgh, New York. But instead of the calm and happy town he remembers from growing up, they step into a nightmare worse than they could have ever imagined. Newburgh is an inferno of warring gangs, and there's little the police - or Bennett - can do to keep the children safe.

Target: Michael Bennett

As violence overwhelms the state, Bennett is torn between protecting his hometown and saving New York City. A partner in his investigations, federal prosecutor Tara McLellan brings him new weapons for the battle - and an attraction that endangers his relationship with Mary Catherine.

A no-holds-barred, pedal-to-the-floor, action-packed novel, Michael Bennett is James Patterson at his most personal and most thrilling best.

A great book but disappointed with ending

I think this was another great book in the Michael Bennett series, however I am extremely disappointed about having to wait for the next book to come out for a conclusion. The last I saw, the next book in the series is titled "Gone" and is supposed to be released in september. I am looking forward to it but hope James Patterson will not end another book with it needing a continuation.

Good... but the ending??

I enjoyed the book and could not wait to find out what was going to happen next, and all of a sudden the book ended! I was very disappointed in the lack of an ending. It definitely gives new meaning to a cliff hanger! I would recommend the series, but not necessarily this book.

Great storyline, bad ending

If you could sum up I, Michael Bennett in three words, what would they be?

Wasn't there an "I Alex Cross"? Come on Patterson, think of something different? With that said, I truly enjoyed the novel. The storyline was suspensful, fun and easy to follow. Just the right amount of character building and Mike Bennett's personal life. No overly corny love scenes like Patterson always writes into the Alex Cross books. Alex Cross used to be my favorite cop character but Mike Bennett has replaced him. The ending was disapointing. The book was not long enough to end mid-story like that. Patterson better not take another year to get the next one out because we need to know the ending.

A new "favorite"

What did you love best about I, Michael Bennett?

This was my first novel by the author so of course my first encounter with the character of Michael Bennett. The story got you right from the first chapter and carried you to the end. The main story and all the sub-stories just kept your interest going.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Favorite character was Michael Bennett just because he had so many interesting quirks to his personality. Can't wait to learn more in the next book!

What about Bobby Cannavale and Jay Snyder ’s performance did you like?

I usually am not a fan of dual readers but this really worked. You related to each character because the reader was so good.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Absolutely. I listen to my audiobooks in the car because I drive a lot with my work and really would have liked to take the long route just to listen.

Any additional comments?

"Great Series" - "Crap Ending"

Narration was first class, and the story was fast paced from the start. Writer & Editor need to do a little more work on the ending. I am sure they have plans for another book, but anyone could have written a better ending. Will give the next book in the series a chance to see if he can redeem himself.

Good Crime Series and Narration

I recommend anyone reading/listening to this book that you start with Book 1 of the series. This will give you the foundation to understand the main character's hubris and humor as well as to feel connected to his circumstances.
