Police officers shot
Detective Michael Bennett arrests an infamous Mexican crime lord in a deadly chase that leaves Bennett's lifelong friend, Hughie McDonough, dead. From jail, the prisoner vows to rain epic violence down upon New York City - and to get revenge on Michael Bennett.
To escape the chaos, Bennett takes his 10 kids and their beautiful nanny, Mary Catherine, on a much-needed vacation to his family's cabin near Newburgh, New York. But instead of the calm and happy town he remembers from growing up, they step into a nightmare worse than they could have ever imagined. Newburgh is an inferno of warring gangs, and there's little the police - or Bennett - can do to keep the children safe.
Target: Michael Bennett
As violence overwhelms the state, Bennett is torn between protecting his hometown and saving New York City. A partner in his investigations, federal prosecutor Tara McLellan brings him new weapons for the battle - and an attraction that endangers his relationship with Mary Catherine.
A no-holds-barred, pedal-to-the-floor, action-packed novel, Michael Bennett is James Patterson at his most personal and most thrilling best.

The writing and story was tight. Unlike some of his recent collaborations, it was seamless. This story was exciting, more exciting, and very exciting to the very end! I look forward to the next Michael Bennett story, #6!
Michael Bennett. He is vulnerable.
No comment. Don't want to give the story away!
I hope James Patterson will be collaborating with Michael Ledwidge for the next book in this series. This story had great writing, fast action, lots of suspensel, and a terrific ending.
Yes, I will always choose his books. One bad applle,, and all that,,
Not this time. This time Michael is unbelievable. He's too experienced to be so clueless in this book. He behaved like he's doing drugs, no unity in his personality and since when has his kids played such a small role in his life. ANYONE, even a cop, stays in touch better than this in the story. His family was a dis-jointed afterthought or even worse, a 'filler'.
Performances were stellar as usual.
..thinking twice about it..
I am looking forward to how he's going to 'hide in plain sight' a unique family like this, also it would serve him right to lose Mary Cathrine. All he did in this book was dump his kids on her and then just dump on Her.
If you like thrillers, don't hesitate for a second to get this one. I am a fan of the Michael Bennett series and this one is excellent. The fast pace and skillful character development made it hard to stop listening. Michael Bennett is a totally believable and likeable character that you want to have a beer with and would trust to have your back if you were in trouble. This one left me anxiously waiting to for the next installment. Bobby Cannavale's narration is spot on as usual.
Good guy who seems to have a problem getting his personal life together.
I love Fr Bennett! He's great. A fooler!
Well read. Voice changes that help you know who is speaking but not over the top.
It is starting to get annoying that his kids get involved in every crime. Not realistic at all. Earlier in the series they were their own drama running along side the police drama. Far more realistic.
Like James Patterson's books, I'm going to keep this short. I, Michael Bennett isn't worth your time or money. It's a shallow, soulless story that fails to captivate on any level. I didn't care about the plight of the protagonist and the antagonist was a two-dimensional stereotype. The best parts of the book were the family scenes but those alone don't make for a good thriller. Also worth noting is the cliff-hanger ending that requires you to buy the next novel to find out what happens. Last chapters are supposed to tie up loose ends and satisfy the reader - this failed on both counts. Skip this one and spend your money on an author who still writes his own books, like Harlan Coben.
Would listen again to get more details of the investigation of Perron
Yes. Always want Bennett to get his man. Plus waiting for his family to add to excitement .
More of this series???
Great on the suspense side, but why end it that way.
Thats impossible for me, but yes
I like stories that have an ending. This one just stopped like a soap opera. The only thing missing was the voice over that says, "tune in next week" or music that just fades out. I would never buy an audio book that ended that way without the conclusion, listed as book 2 , with the final chapters in hand. What is John Patterson thinking? I am disappointed!
An avid reader and listener with eclectic tastes... One unifying them is my love of humor, mystery and great narration.
I recommend anyone reading/listening to this book that you start with Book 1 of the series. This will give you the foundation to understand the main character's hubris and humor as well as to feel connected to his circumstances.
