Publisher's summary

Detective Alex Cross is pulled out of a family celebration and given the awful news that a beloved relative has been found brutally murdered. Alex vows to hunt down the killer, and soon learns that she was mixed up in one of Washington's wildest scenes. And she was not this killer's only victim.

The hunt for her murderer leads Alex and his girlfriend, Detective Brianna Stone, to a place where every fantasy is possible, if you have the credentials to get in. Alex and Bree are soon facing down some very important, very protected, very dangerous people in levels of society where only one thing is certain--they will do anything to keep their secrets safe.

As Alex closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable--a revelation that could rock the entire world. With the unstoppable action, unforeseeable twists, and edge-of-your-seat suspense that only a James Patterson thriller delivers, I, Alex Cross is the master of suspense at his sharpest and best.

Spoiler Alert - Story was good but not great

Again, I love reading about Alex’s personal life as much as, if not more than, the murder case! I like Bree but Christine will always be my favorite for Alex! Love that she has Alex’s mother’s ring! The way Christine and Alex were written as a couple, you could just feel the love between them until her ordeal (and even afterwards at times tbh, fear just really had a grip on her). I just haven’t felt a deep genuine love between him and anyone else but her. I don’t like the way they never mention her as if Ali doesn’t even know who she is. They should mention her more, especially over the holidays and special events. She’s still Ali’s mother and I know she loves him dearly but they treat her as if she doesn’t exist. Ali is super intelligent and I know he inherited that primarily from Christine. Super glad they made her an intelligent principal and educator. To completely ignore Christine is not realistic or right at all. Mothers are crazy about their sons and Ali is extra adorable. Bree is his stepmother and can never take his mother’s place. They should have Christine move closer to him so she can see her son more often as well. Maybe VA or MD.

Glad he’s finally settling down though. Got tired of him bringing all those different women to Nana and the kids. They’d fall in love with them and then they were gone. That wasn’t right at all. A real Black female octogenarian wouldn’t have gone for that. Also call me old-fashioned but all that sleeping around, and spending nights in Nana’s house playing house with the kids was trifling. At any rate, glad he’s finally marrying. At least the kids and Nana can get used to one woman. Bree could honestly be anyone, the way Alex fell in and out of love LOL! He was even in Africa being smitten LOL! I just don’t feel the deep romantic connection between Alex and Bree. Maybe because when she came on the scene, they had already been together for a year or so. There was no build up at all. There’s nothing special about her or their relationship tbh. Just that she’s a cop and she’s more understanding of being chased by serial killers and murderers. That could have easily been Jam but distance kept them apart. Bree is nice though (but they were all nice). Oh well, glad he’s finally settling down.

Not much to say about the murder case except that it was rather predictable. I still recommend it. Glad NanMomma is okay but I knew she would pull through. She’s a tough old woman. Narrator was really good. Blake and Fernandez are my favorites but he did a good job as well. Glad he didn’t try to sound too pitchy like a woman on the female parts. It sounds ridiculous when they do that.

Exceptional !

The narrator was very good. He brought each character alive. I hung onto every word as if i were watching the story unfold at the movies.

Cross

Love the commercials (read this or I will have to kill Alex Cross). If you are unfamiliar with the series you may not like this one bit as there is a lot of family stuff and not as much crime adventure.

Another great Alex Cross

Great story with several things I did not see coming. I enjoyed Alex staying more focused and not going off the deep end of emotion to solve a crime.

Any additional comments?

The captivating story kept me interested till the very end of the book. Not too long, and great for the car drives.
