Dan "Spider" Shepherd is used to putting his life on the line. It goes with the turf when you're an undercover cop. Now working for the Serious Organised Crime Agency, Shepherd is pitting his wits against the toughest criminals in the country. But when the man who once saved his life is kidnapped in the badlands of Iraq, Shepherd has to decide whether his loyalties lie with his country, his career, or his friend. Shepherd and his former SAS colleagues realise that the hostage has been abandoned by the government. And with the execution deadline only days away, Shepherd knows that the only way to stop his friend being murdered is to put himself on the firing line in the most dangerous city in the world: Baghdad.

I could not wait to down load this title!
This is Stephen Leather's fourth book in the Dan "Spider" Shepherd series.
Spider and three other former Sassmen, led by their old boss SAS Major Allan Gannon, must rescue fellow trooper Geordie Mitchell from a basement prison in Baghdad's most anti-Western sector in less than fourteen days or Geordie's head will be seperated from his body, while being video taped for all the world to see.
Working against time and a group of extremist Islamic jihadist, who have already beheaded one prisoner,in the name of Allah, Spider and his team are on a mission almost impossible…
Stephen Leather without a doubt, should be thrusting itself into attention in your audio library alongside Andy McNab, Vince Flynn, Frederick Forsyth, Nelson DeMille etal. Authentic...tersely written... salient traits, exciting stuff with plenty of heart palpitating action gingered up by mystery and intrigue.
Audible better get more of Stephen Leather or Spider and his team will be at your door and SOON.
Plenty of action in this story to get the reader/listener enthralled. Spider Shepherd at his exciting best. Terrorists, snipers, kidnappings and more. Very enjoyable
"Allahu Akbar!! A great listen."
Another great addition to the Dan Shepherd series. This one takes us to Iraq, where one of Dan's old colleagues from the SAS has been kidnapped and will be executed within 14 days unless our hero can get there first.
Great twists and down to earth characters. At times the book had me on the edge of my seat.
Keep them coming Mr Leather,,,,
A gripping story line that had me on the edge of my seat I just couldn't put my head phones down. Can't wait to download the next book
Great Story yet again!
Only downside is the dodgy accents! The Maj and the yank seem to merge for the end of the book!
But still well worth a listen!
"Fast paced adventure."
Another rip roaring adventure for Spider Shephard.
The story twists and turns as Shephard works with his old SAS friends and puts his life on the line.
Hard to put down towards the end. Can't wait to start the next book!
Once you get hooked, your hooked. And glad I stumbled on to the Dan Shepherd series of books.
Great story. Great narration.
Hot Blood as an audio book I am afraid to say in my opinion is a far better text book than Audio book. The narrator Martyn Read failed in his characterisations, with poor accents and weak characterisations, although overall the audio book is very accurately read and very well paced by the narrator.
Being book 4 in the Spider Shepherd series it follows on from the previous story, although the bookstands in its own right with a separate story that once again brings spider into conflict with those that seek to do wrong and in this case terrorists of the kidnapping kind.
The story is rich and complex and a well paced piece of writing.
Although I am not a great fan of the narrator and his characterisations and accents , his general reading of the story and the pace of the story was spot on!
Its a really good book, that develops the Spidwershepherd through another facet and I for one cant wait to get my teeth into book 5
"Blood and Thunder!!!"
I just can not listening to these books! Stephen Leather without doubt is one of the best author's for this genre.
As always a Dan Shepherd quality listen. Decent story, well read.
Don't restrict words required
This is a top 5 all time great read
Stephen Leather just knows how to drag you in to the story wanting more and more everytime you listen to it
First time i have heard Martyn but he gave a great account of the book.
"Classic Stephen Leather"
A thoroughly enjoyable and gripping story that would make an outstanding film.
I can’t say it was poorly narrated because it wasn’t, but it has the worst attempt at accents I’ve ever heard. There was no difference between the female psychologist and Iraqi journalist! Thankfully this didn’t detract from my enjoyment of an excellent story. If you’ve enjoyed other Stephen Leather books, I’m sure this one won’t disappoint.
